Know Your Colts History
Hey guys, I'm JakeTheSnake, one of the writers for Bullets Forever, you might remember my rambling, semi-coherent diary I posted after the Colts won the Super Bowl. I know I don't comment here as often as I should, but I try to keep up with everything that goes on around here, even if I don't comment all that much. I've always been a huge fan of the Colts ever since I was little, just like my dad who was a fan of the team back when they played in Baltimore. I bring this up because as you all know Father's Day is coming up and I was looking for a gift for my dad and I came across the History of the Colts DVD and I knew I had to get it for him. If you've never seen it, I highly recommend that you go get it, it's completely worth the money. Unfortunately, it only goes up to the Colts' loss to the Steelers in '05 but of course you can always make up for that with this.
Anywho, I was pre-screening the DVD's to make sure that...y'know...they worked and everything and there's just a lot of priceless humor in there. I know it's kind of hard to show without actually showing the video, but I think these screencaps will do it enough justice:

Mike Vanderjagt: The Real Slim Shady

On second thought, this is the Real Slim Shady

MC Mora?

Ok, I'll stop now

Perhaps the only known photographic evidence of Tom Moore NOT wearing glasses

Marvin Harrison reacting to seeing Tom Moore with his glasses on, but sadly, with his clothes off.

From Peyton's Rookie year, I guess the new guys don't get hair stylists.

To the man in the Stokley jersey, I ask you, who tucks their jersey in nowadays?

(Sighs) I guess it's catching on.

Yes, the ball is on his head, and yes, he does end up catching it.

Sorry, I lied. MC Mora, the remix!
Well that's about it, hopefully you all enjoyed it. Go Colts! Oh, and if any of you happen to get a spare Super Bowl ring or something, feel free to send it my way. Thanks!

Old Colt's Fans..................
Baltimore Colt's fans feel the same way. The move to Indianapolis was over 20 years ago, and hard feelings still exist. A new generation of Colt's fans were just being born then and probably do not understand the bitterness that still exist in Baltimore. I had an encounter with an old fan in a sports bar a couple years ago and we got on the subject of Manning and Johnny Unitas and he said " Don't even mention Unitas in the same breath with Manning, Unitas played for the real Colts, Manning plays for the ersatz Colts!" I wonder how he feels about the "ersatz" Colts winning the Super Bowl.

I wonder if
Indianapolis didn't "steal" the Colts any more than Baltimore "stole" the (original) Browns. Peyton has said that he doesn't think he would have liked Bob Irsay, but he was a kid when the team was moved, and today's generation had nothing to do with it.
Teams move. Sometimes for crappy reasons. But get over it, Baltimore. It was a generation ago. Celebrate your past, keep your own Colts memories sacred, enjoy your new team -- a Super Bowl champion (several years before Indy's, no less), and get the hell off my back. You're getting a little creepy now.

On the whole Baltimore thing
------------------------------------------
Like I said before, my dad was a fan of Colts all the way back to the Baltimore days. The reason he's still a fan even after the move is because he lived and still lives in Virginia so he didn't really have a connection to Baltimore so he wasn't as devastated by the loss as were those that were closer geographically to the team. There was never any thought of defecting to the Redskins, primarily because he became a Colts fan in the first place because he didn't want to be 'Skins fan. So my dad never really had a problem with the relocation, and I didn't either seeing as how it happened 4 years before I was born. But I can understand how hard is must have been for those that lived in Baltimore and around it. You never want to see a team's relocation decided for financial reasons as opposed to fan apathy. That's why I hate seeing the whole saga with the Sonics, a great fan base is probably going to lose its team because no one's willing to pay for a new basketball arena.
With that said, Indianapolis has proven its worth as a football town and has given the team another great fan base. At the end of the day, Baltimore got the Super Bowl after only 4 or 5 years where Indy had to deal with about 15 years of mediocrity followed by another of decade of heartbreaking losses in the playoffs before finally breaking through, I think it kind of evened itself out in the end.
Also, as one who knows a lot of Ravens fans from living in Virginia, don't bring up the playoff game. Just err on the side of caution, trust me.

Ersatz
Being an imitation or a substitute, usually an inferior one; artificial.

Re; On the whole Baltimore thing
One thing I never understood about teams moving, most of the time it is because the city will not build them a new stadium, then when the team leaves, the city will build a new stadium to attract another NFL team! Is that not what happened in Houston and Cleveland?
