Falcons fans chime in on Ron Mexico

DavetheFalconer is doing a great job conveying what fans think of the football player formerly known as Michael Vick. The Falcoholic believes, like I do, that Vick will get suspended soon. Last night on the SBNSR, TheSportsGuru and I had a bit of a disagreement over whether Vick will get suspended. Guru thinks he won't get suspended anytime soon. DavetheFalconer spells out exactly why Vick will get suspended soon:

This is apparently the crux of any upcoming suspension; remember, Vick's been denying he ever knew this was going on for a long time now. The indictment isn't even close to a sure sign of his guilt, but because he's going to be summoned to court soon it seems likely there was enough evidence to suspect he knew something about it. If Goodell feels he was lied to--and there's every indication from these ghostly league sources that he does--he's going to be feeling a lot of pressure to crack the whip. Add that to the fact that Pacman and others have been suspended without being convicted and you have a situation that I'm afraid won't be resolved in a happy fashion.
Based on that, Vick is getting his butt suspended. This whole situation is surreally ridiculous. Cold Hard Football Facts, in their monthly emailed newsletter, articulates perfectly just how stupid Michael Vick has acted since 2001:
In the most inexplicable NFL story since two Carolina cheerleaders were accused of getting it on in a public restroom stall, electric NFL superstar Michael Vick has apparently decided to throw away a life of fame, fortune and young ladies to run a dogfighting ring.
We can see throwing away your career on h00kers, drugs and booze. Happens all the time. But dogfighting?

Cold Hard Football Facts also takes a few shots at resident ESPN reporter hack Chris Mortenson, who claimed the feds didn't have enough evidence to indict Vick. Yet another stellar reporting effort from ESPN.

Yes, I get CHFF's newsletter even though I bash them to no end. They like me for some reason.

throw away...
"Michael Vick has apparently decided to throw away a life of fame..."

you know, I would agree with that but when has Vick ever demonstrated the ability to throw away anything when in trouble?

*Water Bottle?

*Dead dogs?

*The ball when the pocket is closing in?

Waterbottle
He tried to throw the waterbottle away but way too late, after he had thrown a bit enough fit about it to make security suspicious. That one was less like holding on to the ball to long and then eating it for a sack, more like holding on to the ball to long then while he's being pulled down lobbing a near vertical, un-aimed, lame duck.

character
I lot of Vick's problems come down to character.  He thinks he is so good he is above the rules... he has lied to his organization, been involved in one of the cruelest activities you could (even if it was just turning a blind ey).  anyone remember him telling fans off?  he is a coach killer...  and all this is now coming home to roost, as most people believe he was involved.

I feel sorry for the fans and the team that will pay the price for his self centered arrogance

If the indictment
is to be believed, Vick's problems are above and beyond Vick placing himself above society's rules. One of his dogs lost a fight and consequently 13 thousand of his dollars. When his co-conspirator "Peace" asked Vick what should be done to the 37 pound female dog -- which was likely dying at the time -- he suggested throwing water on it and then electrocuting it, which Peace did.

That isn't entitlement. That's insanity. Sociopathy.

What do we know about serial killers and how they treat animals?

Bingo
You nailed it, Skin Patrol. This is not acceptable behavior, despite what Clinton Portis or anybody else might say about it. It is sociopathic behavior. What makes a man torture and kill defenseless animals?

If these allegations are true (this disclaimer is still necessary; our legal system is built on "innocent until proven guilty") I'd like to see Vick in jail for the rest of his life.

Of course that won't happen, but I'd like to see it. Perhaps everybody doesn't feel as strongly about this issue as I do, but deliberate cruelty has no place in civilized society. People who practice it should be forced to relinquish their right to live amongst the civilized.

A loser is a loser.
Vick is probably the most over rated player in the history of the NFL. He never deserved to be paid as much as Brady or Manning. What did he ever accomplish on the field?  Everyone is afraid to speak the truth about this vermin for fear of being labeled a racist.

hype and ticket sales
Vick was paid big bucks because he was exciting to watch and put fans in the seats... not because he was a great QB.  He was hyped as the saviour and future of the falcons and now he will be their downfall.  Either way the owner can't win.  If Vick is in camp and plays it will be a media circus and it is sure to divide the team as some will support him and some will be disgusted by his actions (as a dog owner I am horrified that he could even be aware and turn a blind eye to this cruelty).  If Blank suspends him or cuts him they lose a player who was a star attraction, whom they paid a lot of money and tried to build an offence around..

Looks like they got him nailed.
Did anyone read the indictment?  It sounds like he did much more than "turn a blind eye". And it looks like they have tons of evidence.  I'm no lawyer or criminal investigator, but they list names of dogs, fight locations (and dates), if the dog won or lost, AND even the amount of money they won or lost in the fight.  They also list which fights Vick was at, and have a witness that says Vick personally handed him a duffle bag with $23K cash for beating his dog in a fight.  And who knows how much more evidence they'll have once they offer the other 3 guys on the indictment deals to roll over on Vick.

I have to disagree with the idea that he will get suspended soon.  Granted the new policy hasn't been tested much yet, but thus far they have given first time offenders the benefit of the doubt until convicted or he admits guilt.  Tank, Pacman, and Chris Henry all had prior convictions.  While he did get in the news for the whole water bottle incident, nothing legally ever materialized from that and his legal record "was" clean.

not to mention
that the federal government conviction rate is 99%. Vick is toast.

90% conviction rate
as of 2002. I've heard that in this particular county it's as high as 95%. His best hope, that the case gets dismissed, has already passed.

He is screwed.

C'mon guys...
Is he screwed or is he toast? Which round should I pick him on my fantasy team for screwed versus toast?
