Preseason Game Thread: Colts v. Cowboys

Indianapolis Colts at Dallas Cowboys
AT
Week Eleven: Indianapolis Colts at Dallas Cowboys

Location: Texas Stadium  Irving, TX

Kick-off time: 8:00 pm EDT

Broadcast: FOX

Man, I missed putting up these pics and creating these gamethreads. THE PRESEASON IS FINALLY HERE! Yes, that is how crazy I am. I'm going nuts for a preseason game.

Obviously, since this is the first preseason game, the normal starters will not play much. However, guys like Marlin Jackson, Kelvin Hayden, and Gonzo wil likely see extended playing time. I'll be watching them close along with Tony Ugoh. I'll also be looking at guys we looked at this week at Training Camp, guys like Roy Hall, Quinn Pitcock, and Freddie Keiaho. To read our camp coverage, check out these entries:

For a Cowboy perspective (and if you want to find Terry), check out Blogging The Boys. This is an open thread.

Predictions
Hey Terry, how many sacks is D-Ware and Spencer going to get on tonight?

by MarkV0327 on Aug 9, 2007 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well
Ware probably only a few since he's only playing a qtr, Spencer could have more, maybe 3.

McFarland
Did the commentators just contradict themselves with Booger's status? One just said that he isn't on the IR, then the other just said that right before the game Booger was on the IR. Which is it?

Focused on TO
How many times do you think Romo will miss the TD throwing to a double-covered TO and not to the wide open Whitten (sp?).

Ware almost got Manning there though, lol.

by MarkV0327 on Aug 9, 2007 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

not too many times
he got a lot of pressure on that play, Manning threw incomplete when Ware pressured him.

by Terry on Aug 9, 2007 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah
and i don't blame him for just throwing it up to TO, probably a good 40-50% of the time in a jump ball he'll come down with it

who's playing DT?
Did I just see Charlie Johnson playing DT and getting in the backfield to shut down a run? Or is there another Johnson?

by MarkV0327 on Aug 9, 2007 8:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

there's
another Johnson

So I like Betts better than Sorgi
He actually led the team to a TD AND he can throw left. But seriously, I'm liking Betts, I hope we keep him.

Ed Johnson
Was anyone else quite impressed with the way he looked? I mean, I'm still depressed over losing Booger for the season and Polian all but ruling out acquiring Warren Sapp, but for a rookie no one's heard of he didn't look bad. Somewhat encouraging.

equally impressed
i was very impressed with ed johnson.  that was his first game and, as you say, who the hell has ever heard of this guy?  he did very well i thought. again, polian is excellent at spotting talent.  also, marlin hits hard as hell, especially for a corner. i really liked the play where bethea streaked down the field and drilled the cowboy's rb (can't remember if it was barber or jones). he and sanders are going to make a scary safety combo. keiaho looked good from what i saw as well.

did anyone pay much attention to tim jennings?
also, where is vinatieri?

New starters/others
Marlin Jackson looked great, he can tackle, brought down Barber on his own a few times.

Didn't see much of Hayden, TO got an 8 yards reception against him and he got called for a hold but nothing else I noticed

Jennings got juked out of his shoes but Barber, not what I had wanted to see from him but he was solid after that. If he's the nickelback he won't have contain on outside run.

Keiaho looked good. Fast, great tackler.

Bethea was bringing some big hits. He's built more like a SS now.

The DTs filling in for McFarland were decent. A couple good stops but still soft up the middle.

Gonzalez had a good catch and run but didn't do much else.

Ugoh was ok. Ware got some pressure against him but he gave Manning time to look for a receiver and get rid of the ball.

I liked Betts. Mobility makes a QB more fun to watch and Sorgi was off target a lot.

The D looked ok. They had Bethea down in the box most of the time the 1st D was in and they still had trouble stopping the run. No big plays which was the problem in the D's meltdown last season.
lots of completions to TEs too. I'm not sure whether because of the 8 men in the box or if the LBs weren't covering well.

I'm excited to see more.
