Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

The pre-season ends, laughing at New England, and the final roster

I'll just get this these two things out of the way because they are overshadowing, somewhat, the important stuff:

  • Byron Leftwich has always sucked (tip Marked Hoosier), and it's a statement to the utter stupidity of Jack Del Rio that it has taken him this long to realize how bad he does indeed suck. It's also a statement to how delusional Jacksonville fans are. I love RiverCityRage's homerism and his zeal for his team. But when he would talk about how Leftwich was a "winner" and could help them only if he could stay healthy, I couldn't help but laugh underneath my breath as I chalked up another AFC South championship for the Colts. Leftwich, or Fatty McButterpants as I like to call him, was always slow, had horrible throwing mechanics, dogged it in practices, and could never deliver the football accurately. He's why Jacksonville drafted those horrible tall receivers like Jones and Williams. It's simply long overdue for Fatty to get booted. He was always a bad QB, and Del rio knows he's coaching for his job this year. The Jaguars now have a better chance this year with Garrard. They should have never drafted Leftwich in the first place (a decision made by Del Rio), and the whole Leftwich debacle should cost Del Rio his job.
  • What can you say about ole Rodney? Not only is he a cheap shot artist who intentionally likes to injure players, but now he's a doper and a cheater (tip bluegirl). And sorry tommasse, but fans of other teams are indeed going to make a big deal out of this. This is the same sect of Patriots fans that got all hollier than thou when justifiying their team acting like jerks after the playoff win against San Diego. Remember when the Patriots acted like clowns after beating the Chargers? Remember Patriots fans claimed they had the right to demean the Chargers because their players (aka Shawn Marriman) were dopers.

    Patriots fans DEFINE hypocrisy.

Now, a cloud hangs over Rodney Harrison's career and over all the championships he helped New England win. I mean, if he's cheating now, it stands to reason he was cheating in 2003 and 2004, meaning the Patriots championships those years are tainted. Folks, Rodney Harrison was always human garbage, and any fan that ever defended him was nothing more than an a blind idiot. No, not a homer. AN IDIOT! Blind homerism has its limits. My homerism ends if I know a player on my team tries to injure people... and takes HGH.

Now, all that said, it's time to move on and get to the final roster spots. Guys like Dante Hughes, Brandon Condren, and Keyunta Dawson really established themselves last night in the final pre-season game. I'm not sure DeDe, Kenton, or Clifton really stood out at al this pre-seaosn. Don't be surprsied if Indy signs a RB that's cut today. Check out Cincy Jungle for a Bengals fan's perspective on the game. Potential players that were cut from other teams that the Colts may get: DT Ian Scott was cut by Philly, rookie LBer Buster Davis was cut by Arizona.

Keep your eyes peeled after 4pm today. That's when the final roster will get set in time for Kickoff Weekend!

Update [2007-9-1 13:11:7 by BigBlueShoe]: One more thing on Rodney and HGH-- I am not naive when it comes to this. It is certainly possible that someone on the Colts uses HGH. However, here's the difference between me and Patriots fans: If someone is caught using HGH, I'd want them CUT. Yes, this includes Peyton Manning. If someone like Manning is caught injecting anything illegal into his body to potentialy increase his on the field performance, I'd want him suspended and then CUT FROM THE TEAM. No questions. No explanations. No chicken-sh*t press conference, ala Rodney's little song-and-dance earlier. If you use HGH, you are a cheater. End of discussion. Since doping is cheating, it questions the integrity of your career, and nothing is more sacred than your integrity. Not money, fame, or even family. Your name and your word are who you are. Without them you are nothing, which is what Rodney Harrison is right now. I hope that clarifies my position on the subject.

Naive
You're awfully naive if you believe no one on the Colts is taking HGH.

It's a huge problem throughout the NFL because it cannot be tested for. Harrison has admitted to having used it. There are probably many more players on the Patriots using, just as there are probably many players on the Colts and on every other team using it.

I don't want to hear anyone getting all holier than thou on the steroids/HGH front. All of us have players we cheer for on our favorite teams that are using this stuff.

Cola

Yeah...
Great defense there Cola. You basically said, "everyone knows that everyone does steroids. So therefore, no one is guilty." Sorry but arguments by cynicism don't fly with me. No one for the Colts has ever been accused of taking this stuff and certainly no one that has played long term for Indy.

As for the cuts I am really surprised that Ian Scott and Buster Davis got cut. A guy like Ian Scott could really help the Colts and Buster Davis would give us some nice depth at LB. I just don't understand why Arizona cut him.

Dalls has been caught
well none of the players yet but the QB coach has been suspended for 5 games for using HGH as well!

HGH
HGH i believe can be legally prescribed in some situations... if his own doctor wouldn't give it to him, so he got it illegally then he is really stupid  ... or lying through his teeth.

Harrison
All Patriots fans are dissapointed in Rodney, he has worked his tail off for the team over the years, and was a legitimately good person and great to the fans.

We can respect him for his candor in admitting that he took HGH, rather then hiding behind feigned ignorance, but at the end of the day he did cheat.

Frankly, for me, when it comes to the issue of steriods in sports, especially a game like football, players using HGH are cheaters like the 60 million Americans who had smoked pot are criminals.

Oh, and for the demeaning of the Chargers, that is as much for the disrespect they showed the heavily depleted Pats after the 05 game, and before playoff game.    Chargers need to learn to keep their mouths shut before trash talking one of the most successful franchises in football for the last 15 years - at least win a couple playoff games first.

by CGM on Sep 1, 2007 2:56 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah... right
Comparing smoking pot to using steroids (or growth hormones) is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard in awhile. You Pats fans will literally say ANYTHING to make yourselves feel better.

by MasterRWayne on Sep 1, 2007 3:01 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

How so?
What specifically about the analogy is flawed?  Given the amounts of money involved for players, the failure of the league to develop adequate testing for HGH, and the relative easy it can be acquired with, and the weak penalties involved, I fail to see where it breaks down.

There are very few people in the world who would turn down the advantage that HGH might provide to them when the stakes run into the tens of millions of dollars.

If you have any intelligent response, I would be more then eager to hear it.  If instead all you can respond with is insults, I will simply have to put it down to being on a Colts site.

by CGM on Sep 1, 2007 3:37 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Weak penalties?
That I totally fail to see. Harrison just lost a lot of money over his doping.

by MasterRWayne on Sep 1, 2007 4:20 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

haha
Well, if that is what you regard as an intelligent response, I guess you are really not interested in actually discussing this, or the issue of HGH and steriods in the NFL, and rather using it as a  excuse to bash Harrison and the Patriots.

Suspended for 4 games?  So he loses maybe half a million to a million in lost game checks.  Compared to not taking HGH and perhaps never being able to play again, or having it take a full year or more to recover?  Remember that HGH is not really going to build bulk, but rather speed the regrowth of tissue following from injury and the like.

If the NFL was truely serious about banning HGH they would have forced the NFLPA to agree to taking whatever tests are possible and banning players for a season or for life.

I would bet dozens if not hundreds of players take it and that the League and most coaches are willing to accept that as the price for having such a violent game.

Three tactics...
There are three tactics that someone engages in to distort any argument. You can...
  1. Lie
  2. Deny
  3. Belittle
Obviously, with your statement "Frankly, for me, when it comes to the issue of steroids in sports, especially a game like football, players using HGH are cheaters like the 60 million Americans who had smoked pot are criminals." You have chosen the third option when, in fact, steroid use is cheating.

by MasterRWayne on Sep 1, 2007 4:48 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed
Fact: Taking HGH is illegal in the NFL.
Fact: Using any banned substance to gain a competive edge is cheating.
Fact: In a sport like football, where fast injury recovery is EVERYTHIGNG, taking HGH to excellerate healing is indeed cheating...

... which is why Rodney got suspended.

HGH Testing
The problem with HGH is that you can't test for it. Everyone produces it naturally, and even in unnatural quantities, like for example in professional athletes. It's nearly impossible to say that someone has elevated levels of HGH, when there's no concrete way to do a baseline, since it's one of those hormones, like testosterone and the like, that is constantly in flux.

I agree with most of the statements here, regarding players that use HGH. If Manning came out tomorrow and said "I use HGH", I'd first off wonder why someone that never gets hit uses it, and secondly wonder if Sorgi just pooped himself because he's now the starter.

Oh yeah, and this is another example of how the Patriots suck. And old and slow defense just got older and slower.

cuts
Any word on the final cuts/roster I've checked the Colts and NFL's websites and didn't find them.

Need a good laugh BBS?
It seems a certain patriot homer is angry with your Harrison assessment.

I do like his pet for you, BigBlueEgo... he gets bonus points for that.  Just remember, we are to trust the words of a cheater about when he used a banned substance... because a cheater never lies, do they?

Go Colts!

There are probably dozens
of players on every team--including the Colts--taking HGH, steroids, or other performance enhancing substances. One point on Harrison's side is he did admit his mistake while Merriman used the old "tainted supplement" lie. These players all know exactly what they are putting into their bodies.

have you seen his Yankee stadium photo?
I love the name for Blue too...it is classic...he also called him Nancy Grace which I agree with wholeheartedly...considering any writer that says anything remotely criticizing the Colts is and idiot, retarded, jackass, dope or plain stupid according to Blue...thanks for the link...I laughed out loud.

"Obviously, with your statement "Frankly, for me, when it comes to the issue of steroids in sports, especially a game like football, players using HGH are cheaters like the 60 million Americans who had smoked pot are criminals." Again you have dodged the point and are in fact engaging in the same behavior you are accusing me of.

I didnt claim it was not cheating.  It is.  No doubt about it, and you will never find me denying it.  Same way that smoking pot is criminal behavior.

But be honest with yourself, if someone gave you a pill that could give you the physical ability to play in the NFL and told you it was virtually impossible to test for, the first thing you would say is 'where can I get a glass of water'

But please, dont let me distract you anymore from attempting to belittle the Patriots.

Harrison
Harrison has been known as a dirty player in the NFL  even before he got to the patriots, what can you say about someone who has been fined over 200,000 by the league.....  If you read the article he confessed because he has been named in an illegal doping ring..(Like bonds and balco)  If he is convicted he will miss more games and possibly more suspensions beyond just missing four games... He is trying to minimize by coming out and playing for sympathy.. I don't buy it, it sounds too much like the 'tainted supplement' excuse..  Might be interesting to know how long he has been involved in this...

by bluegirl on Sep 2, 2007 3:31 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And...
just because we can't let this anti-Colts stuff go on...

Get stuffed you anti-Colts bastoids!

Anyway Rodney admitted guilt.  You guys are accussing everyone else, not even charged, with guilt. Hell, maybe everyone in the NFL is dogfighting too.

What's the test for dogfighting? A lint brush?

Beat it you anti-Colts! I don't even know what website you came from so do me the same favor by going back to it.
