The final 22 cuts

Some suprises:

LB Brandon Archer
QB Josh Betts
DB Duane Coleman
DB Tanard Davis
RB Clifton Dawson
RB DeDe Dorsey
TE Jonny Harline
TE Matt Farbotko
LB KaMichael Hall
DE Ryan Lacasse
OG Joe Lobdell
DT Ramel Meekins
DB Antonio Perkins
TE Gijon Robinson
DE Bo Schobel
WR Trent Shelton
WR John Standeford
WR Craphonso Thorpe Boo!
OG Matt Ulrich
DB Scott Ware
OG Sam Wilder
LB Victor Worsley

Big surprise with DeDe Dorsey getting cut. The guy was handed the back-up RB job prior to training camp and now has seemingly pissed it away. I want Craphonso to make the team. Maybe he'll get the Practice Squad.

RB's
So Kenton Keith is the backup with Luke Lawton as the 3rd RB/FB. I think Dorsey and Dawson getting cut means they will bring in a veteran.
I like what I've seen of Keith but I'm not sure they'll trust him enough. I really don't want to watch Addai get run into the ground like they use to do to Edge. Keith or a vet need to take a good cut of the carries.
Last season was about a 55-45 split with Addai getting more. I'd like to see Keith getting at least 25-30% of the carries. That will keep Addai under 300 so he's still strong in the playoffs.

I...
I couldn't agree more.

glad DeDe got cut
it really was his job to lose and boy did he lose it. The only time that I saw him run hard was at the last preseason game after he fumbled the ball and it was returned for a TD.

waiver wire
There's no way the Colts are going into the regular season with 1 RB on the roster. This indicates they'll sign someone. There's good talent out there ... Lundy, Fason, etc.

Antonio Pitman
Drafted by the Saints in the 4th round was cut, I know he was cut for a reason but it would not be bad to give him a try.

He looked worse than Dorsey....
I watched a couple of the Saints games on the NFL network and he looked AWFUL.  He wasn't running well, and he flat out blew several blitz pickups and got the QB drilled.  He got yanked in 2 different games after giving up big sacks, and they brought Stecker back in who should have been done for the day.

There isn't only one RB on the roster, they retained Kenton Keith and Luke Lawton.  Though Antonio Pittman might be a good pick-up for sure.  He would be another Buckeye to bring in.

I'm a little said about Craphonso and Standeford.  Crappy played pretty well, and Standeford made some good scoring plays taking balls from Sorgi(on his left no less).  I think Standeford really improved this off-season and maybe could have been a contributor.  But I guess the problem is one of depth.  Look at this:

Marvin
Reggie
Gonzo
Hall
Moorehead

That is a pretty good receiver corps, and then our tight ends are pretty nice too with Dallas Clark, Ben Utecht, and Fletcher(who just needs to work on his blocking skills seriously).  Kenton Keith is showing soft hands and we all know Joe can run nice routes and make plays from the backfield or in the slot.  It doesn't matter if we play Dice, Deuce, or 4 or 5 receiver set - we have a lot of different packages to put in each one of those sets to create a lot of different looks and mismatches.

I wonder if keeping Lawton around means that we are looking to play more I-Form or Split Backs?  I guess he could be a placeholder for a more serious option as a third back(like Pittman), or for Special Teams play.  But he is built solid like a FB, so maybe a little more power running may be used to break the monotony of stretches, single-back dives, and pitches.

Overall, I think the cuts were good though, and I think this is a solid roster as is.  Having said that, I think we might make a few low-dollar acquisitions from the cut pool.

Standeford
He's my fellow Monrovia Bulldog and Boilermaker, and I was really hoping he'd make the cut this year, especially since he can't be on the practice squad anymore.

His receiving skills aren't what are keeping him from making the roster.  He's always been a very good route runner, and rarely drops the ball.  He's miles ahead of Hall in this regard.  He just isn't big enough to contribute on special teams.  And as a 4th or 5th WR, you have to be able to do this.

Sadly, I think his career is over at this point.  I seriously doubt he'll leave Indiana to play somewhere else unless he's given assurances that he'd stay on the roster.

Other Team....
I really think he should try a different team. On this team he didn't have anything special to add as there's no way his a first receiver on this team, and he isn't as fast as Gonzo(and he isn't a first round pick), he doesn't have the freakish size of Roy Hall, and Moorehead is an all-around contributor when he's called upon.

There are a lot of other teams that have a lot less talent at receiver, namely the Texans, the Packers, the Falcons, the Bucs, the Jets, well um, I guess most of the NFL.  I think he could have a shot at a third receiver spot on several teams.  The same goes for Craphonso.

I agree
I think he could catch on with another team, it's more that he doesn't want to pick up and move.  With the exception of one training camp with the skins, he's hardly ever been out of the state.  He's a small town kid, and I just don't think he'll want to be away from his family.

Titans
which ones of these guys do you think we Titans will sign?

by DonFrancisco on Sep 2, 2007 8:17 AM EDT   0 recs

De De
I was at both of the home preseason games.  I watched both of the other ones.  I must say I wasn't impressed with Dorsey, and I'm glad he was cut.

I think it may have been a mistake to cut Thorpe and Standeford. They'll probably get picked up by somebody. Maybe Arizona.  I've heard their RB stinks. ;-)

If Addai gets hurt
you guys are toast, as is my fantasy team.

Stay healthy big guy!

by Terry on Sep 2, 2007 1:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah well...
Your team is just toast, period. After all Wade Phillips is your coach.

Too Bad They Cut Dawson
I think cutting Clifton Dawson was a mistake.  He looked the best before he hurt his ankle.

Does he make the practice squad, or does he go to the CFL?
