2007 Practice Squad

Well, it looks like neither Clifton Dawson nor DeDe Dorsey made the 2007 Practice Squad. Man, talk about a massive screw-up! Dorsey worked out with Manning and the receivers in the off-season. He learned the offense, did all this work. He also looked good in Training Camp. He was practically handed the back-up job and managed to completely and utter blow it. I know people that drafted him in Fantasy Football thinking he'd put up Dom Rhodes numbers. On an interesting note, Luke Lawton was kept as a FB on the 53 man roster. I did not think highly of him when I say him at Training Camp, but jdb said he looked good when he was there. Maybe Luke will work out.

Also, Craphonso didn't make the PS either. Very sad. We all rooted for Crap. On a humorous note, Yahoo Sports reported Ladell Betts was cut, and Redskins nation went ape-sh*t! Turned out Yahoo messed up. The only Betts cut was the Colts' Josh Betts, who was later added to the PS.

As far as claiming other players off waivers, the only guy Polian nabbed was RB DeCori Birmingham from the Giants. He was added to the PS. Oakland did not cut Warren Sapp, and the Eagles snatched up DT Kimo Von Oelhoffen.

So, this is the roster for 2007. It looks like Kenton Keith will get 15 carries a game, and Polian is happy with Ed Johnson, Quinn Pitcock, and Raheem Brock as his DTs. Maybe something will happen ala McFarland last year, but who knows. If they weren't comfortable with these guys, they'd have made a move. Now, it's a countdown to Thursday against the New Orleans Saints. This Thursday, it's real. They'll unveil the banner, work the fans up into a frenzy, and a new year will officially start with a new team sporting 11 rookies, one of them playing left tackle. I'm getting goose bumps, because KICKOFF WEEKEND IS AROUND THE CORNER!

Go Colts!

Cutting Dawson was a Mistake

I think cutting Clifton Dawson was a tremendous mistake.  He looked the best before he hurt his ankle.  He was the all-time-leading rusher in the Ivy League.  He almost never fumbles.

My prediction is that he goes to the CFL, becomes a star, then gets another shot in the NFL.

Polian doesn't make many mistakes.  He made a mistake this time.

Looks Like the Bengals Agree With Me!
Just found out the Bengals claimed Dawson off of waivers and he made the team.

Looks like he'll play in the NFL this year after all!

Keith
There's no way he gets 15 carries a game. Only in a blow out. He's going to get 2 - 3. Addai is going to get an Edge like workload. Talk of the 2-back system is just that .. talk.

Probably
You're probably right about Keith only getting 3 carries a game--- but what if Addai goes down?

I hope not
If they give Addai an Edge like workload then I am really going to have to throw Dungy and Polian under the bus over this.

Please don't do it
A fresh RB in the playoffs is a huge advantage. Rhodes averages 3.4 YPC in the regular season, but After 16, 17, 18 games the defenses are so worn down that a back like Rhodes, if he's fresh, can rack up yards like an elite RB. Rhodes averaged 3.4 YPC in the regular season, but he was nearly the superbowl MVP and was huge in winning the Ravens game. The Bears and Ravens are both great defenses but they couldn't stop him or Addai.

well...
Maybe they see something in Kenton Keith that we don't, or haven't seen...

...dear god I hope so. :(

Keith....
Keith rushed for 5.3ypc; Dawson for 4.0ypc and Dorsey for 2.7ypc during the preseason. I thought Keith looked really strong. I'll bet they give him the 15 carries. He's been playing pro football for 4 years, though with the CFL. Still, it's a lot of experience.  It's the same size guys he's been hitting and getting hit by as the NFL.

This is from Sportsline:

In the 2007 preseason, Keith had 12 carries for 64 yards with two catches for five yards. However, in four years with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL, Keith had 610 carries for 3,811 yards (6.2 yards per carry) with two 1,000-yard seasons and 21 rushing touchdowns ... and 19 fumbles. He also caught 126 passes for 1,178 yards (a 9.3 avg.) with eight receiving scores.

Dawson
Well, you can't argue with pre-season stats.  The only thing that was sure was that Dorsey looked really really bad.  I think they should have kept three backs.

You know Dungy's plan was to keep Dawson on the practice squad, and wasn't expecting him to be picked up so quickly.

Keith had great CFL stats, for sure.  In that regard he was a more sure quantity than Dawson, who's never played a down of pro ball.  On the other hand, Dawson was the all-time-leading Ivy League rusher-- and did not fumble a single time in a four year career.

Proabably they went for the more sure quantity in Keith rather than taking a chance on Dawson.

I still think Dawson will be a star somewhere eventually.

Kenton Keith
I'm pretty sure I've seen it linked here before, but http://www.youtube.com/user/KENTONKEITH

some of his CFL highlights   makes me feel better.
