All-Pro Team Announced (Only 2 Colts)

Following up on Bullard47's diary, the Associated Press NFL All-Pro team was announced, and it featured C Jeff Saturday and S Bob Sanders. Again, just like with the stupid Coach of the Year award, the collection of press writers voted Reggie Wayne second team All-Pro (not first, where he belongs) and Brett Favre as second team QB over Manning.

Um, what?

If you go up and down the list, you can see that these writers voted for players based on stats. But, when matched up with Favre, Peyton Manning has more impressive stats and his team has just as many wins despite playing in a tougher conference and division than Favre. I sometimes think that these writers only look at one stat (yards) and make their decision off that.

It really is amazing how a 13-3 defending NFL champion can have only two first team All-Pros. These writers simply don't watch the sport they cover. It is literally that simple, and that pathetic.

Farve...
Reminds me of last year when they voted Brees 1st team over Manning.

Reality is they simply do not care what Manning does UNLESS it is another 2004 like year or the team goes 15-1 or 16-0...only then would he get the love.

The farve stuff is funny because he is getting more jizzing because he broke those two career records. Somehow those make his season that much better even though he was going to get them anyway coming into the season...well, at least the TD guy.

I guess the best way to try and look at this stuff is that they believe Manning is so good that even when he has a year better than almost all the qbs in the nfl it isn't a surprise. Any qb dealing with all those injuries and doing that well would have got mad love but not Peyts because somehow it is expected. It's lame to think that way but it is how it is I guess.

True and False
I think that Wayne should have definately been 1st team like you said. I agree with the Favre pick, as a matter of fact had Brady not had the year he had Favre would have my vote for MVP. But dont look at it as the Super Bowl champs only have 2 all pro's look at it as a compliment that you are so solid as a TEAM. That is why you guys are so GREAT! ( that is a HUGE compliment coming from a titans fan )
Someone once said "Vince Young bleeds Titan Blue!" But I disagree, Because the Great One DOESNT bleed!

Thanks!
We do appreciate it when it comes from our rivals.

Romo deserved 2nd team status
over Manning and its a joke Favre was picked over him. Romo is easily the MVP this season if it wasn't for Brady's insane season.

Romo, Favre and Manning
I hate to sound a little anti-Colts, but I would also pick Favre over Manning this season (no way in hell I would pick Brees over Manning, that's just stupid). Manning had a great season, and he would be on my 3rd team of this season.

But I can't really see why Wayne isn't on the first team.

Dr. Z
I enjoyed his list. Although he should really have whoever coaches O-line for the Bills on there. That guy has really developed a strong group of young players.

The biggest problem I had with his list
Was the exclusion of Cromartie. Cromartie was easily the best CB this season.

Cromartie
Cromartie had a great season in terms of stats. However, Deltha O'neal had a great season, in regards to interceptions, three years ago and that guy is a horrible player. I need to watch to see if Cromartie is a good player or just a lucky player. Remember that corners often times have great seasons and follow it up with sub-par careers.

remember in the SD game
where Wayne got behind Cromartie and Manning tried to drop it over the top of him and Cromartie went up, got ridiculously high off the ground and brought the ball down one handed, Insane play. I don't know whether he's got the technique in coverage to be an elite corner (I think he's at least good in coverage), but he has the athleticism to make plays just about no one else can.

All these "experts" pick the feel good
stories of the year and run with it (patriots perfect season, hence belichick COY award despite cheating). besides, every analyst i've ever watched or read has a man crush on favre. and seeing as how his team did something they weren't predicted to do, he gets high praise. its all about keeping their audience (which is why T.O. was voted to the all pro team. my reasoning is that since a 4000+ yard, 30+ td season for manning is at minimum the norm, he has to have one of the greatest seasons ever to be praised anymore. but whatever, the SB is all that matters, and we have a good shot at that

you know i realized something...
Generally when comparing legends and soon to be legends, it's nearly impossible because of the age difference, difference in football era's etc etc etc.  So the only thing you can really do is compare stats and documented facts to compare two people's careers.  No before I slam this guy, I'd just like to say Brett Favre is a good guy, I like his personality alot, and he is a legend in his own right for sure.  He gets major props from me for playing his own unique style and making a name for himself just like Manning.  They both have completely unique and innovative playing styles which, imo, put they miles ahead the rest of the competition (including brady).  But this bit of info kinda made me chuckle a bit about Brett Favre and comparing Manning to the best.  It's common belief that this year has been 1 of maybe Brett Favre's best seasons.  Arguably his best if you really look into it.  And to be honest, it was a pretty solid year, nothing spectacular though.  Now if you compare Manning's best year to Favre's best...there is really no debate.  Manning blows Favre out of the water.  And the best part about all of this is, Manning has being playing for alot of Favre's career too.  So it's not like there is a huge gap between then and now like it would be if we compared Manning to say, Marino (even though for his time and still today Marino was a badass).  Not sure why I'm bringing this up, but it still kind of made me reflect on just how good Manning is, and will be by the time end hangs his cleats up and retires.
Go Colts!

Marino
I never watched any QBs from the 70's, so I could not tell. However, I saw shitloads of them, and the only QB I would say that stand well against Manning is Marino. It's not to take anything away of Brady, but he was never as good as Manning (even considering his alien season, and despite whatever the fuck any Pats fan might say). Marino was. When somebody asks me who is the best ever, I have a hard time answering Manning. For my money, they are the 2 best QBs ever.

QB's
Favre over Manning for second-team All Pro is just plain dumb!!

Merrygobyebye needs a new perspective
Marino and manning just have 1 ring between them. Brady has 3. You colts fans are whining about Harrison being out hurt, when untill this year brady never had a great receiver.

Manning
never had a good defense.

It didn't hurt....
His personal stats though like it did brady

Blind people ...
put team stats (like a SB win) first when evaluating individual stats.

A SB ring may be a nice way to evaluate how a team performed towards the end of the season, but it's no metric of how "good" a QB is. Trent Dilfer anyone?

by PaytonMenning on Jan 13, 2008 2:48 AM EST up reply actions

How many
Fourth quarter comebacks has trent dilfer made?
