PFT saying Dungy to retire [UPDATE] Dungy says PFT full of C.R.A.P.

Tip to mgrex03 for posting this in the diaries, but Mike Florio is saying Tony Dungy will step down as head coach and Jim Caldwell will be named the new head coach of the Colts.

We will see if ole Mikey Florio is right, or if his "league source" is full of crap. Stay tuned.

Update [2008-1-16 16:46:29 by BigBlueShoe]: Dungy himself is denying the report, claiming he hasn't made up his mind. Florio's source better be right about this, because if they aren't it will make people like me really, really, really mad that he tried to jump the gun on something he shouldn't have jumped the gun on.

Not the first
And certainly not the last.

He reports that "Randy Moss" was in hot water for battering some woman.  I believed it.  Now it's bunk.

There's the link for you guys.

something must be up though
if Caldwell withdrew his name from the Baltimore and Atlanta coaching vacancies. He must think Dungy is retiring and he'll get the HC job with the Colts.

Dungy gone
i wouldn't be the least surprised in dungy were gone... he has his ring and a hall of fame career... and he has always had other interests, and family...

i wish him all the best if he goes... and be glad if he stays...

i certainly wouldn't mind caldwell taking over ... continuity does great things for teams...  peyton has a great offense because he has had only on system....

sigh
If Dungy does retire; which I hope he doesn't despite what I said before.  I just don't want Caldwell to take over.  I wish Irsay and Polian would go after someone outside the organization to bring in a different mentality.  Not completely opposite to Dungy's, but something a little different, with a more aggressive mindset.
Go Colts!

new head coach
true it would be nice to know caldwell's mindset... but from things i have read he has a different mindset... dungy is conservative and i don't know if caldwell is as much so... every coach is different... and if a new head coach came in could he work in the existing and relatively successful structure... some changes yes, but this team doesn't need a radical overhaul (just better special team and a pass rush....)

Dungy
I wouldn't say Dungy has a "conservative" coaching mindset. I mean we do run one of the most aggresive offenses in the league. Our defense is conservative because we play the cover 2 system which works great with our offense. We gain a lead and then play against the pass. Thats the formula and it really has been successful. But formulas aside we really what mattes is that the players have to play and that did not happen during the Chargers playoff game. On offense we really need to address our running game and find some quality backups for Joe Addai.
