Warrick Dunn could wind up with us

Falcons Dunn to Colts or Bucs?

If Warrick Dunn is released by the Falcons, he said landing with former coach Tony Dungy in Indianapolis or going back to Tampa Bay, which drafted him out of Florida State in 1997, would not be a bad way to finish out his career. "If I wasn't a Falcon, and I went back to Tampa or played for coach Dungy, it would be something that's full circle," said Dunn, who played for the Buccaneers from 1997 to 2001 under Dungy. "It's not what I'm hoping for and wishing for, but you never know." -- Atlanta Journal-Constitution

I would love it if dunn came to the colts. Though he is aging, I believe he still has some miles left and would be a far better change up from Kenton Kieth

Sounds Great
Dunn would be an amazing 3rd down back for us.
He can catch the ball well, and he's been known to take it the distance.

I agree...
He'd be great out of the backfield and his veteran experience would be helpful with picking up blitzes...  something we definitely need with our offense and the coverages that are typically played against us.

That's actually a really good idea.  He isn't injury prone if you look at his history.  Aging but not that old (only 32).  I think it'd be a pretty good pick-up.

I also think he realized a while ago he's going nowhere on the Falcons so he wants to start winning again.  Can't say I blame him.

If it's a Simeon Rice type deal
"show us you've still got something." I'm for it, but he's been bad the last year or two in Atlanta, so he shouldn't get much money or time in the deal.

Everyone knows Warrick Dunn is a solid rb.  His problem is that the Falcons as a team, specifically as an offense have sucked balls the last few years.

Look at Norwood's numbers
Some of Dunn's struggles have been from the shitty talent level in Atlanta, but he's getting outplaed by a large margin by a guy that's in the same circumstances. Norwood has been tearing it up when he gets carries behind the same O line with the same ineffective passing game.

I don't think bringing in Dunn if he's cut is a bad idea, but I don't think he's going to be much, if at all better than Keith (better hands, but a less effective runner).

Are you crazy?
Norwood ain't tearing anything up ...

by PaytonMenning on Feb 1, 2008 1:50 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

He's only
averaged 6 yards per carry as a rookie, then improved on that this year (6.4ypc). He also has over 200 career carries and hasn't fumbled once.
FO's numbers like him too, which is rare for an explosive big play back like Norwood. 14th in total value, #1 in value per play. Norwood is good.

I see ...
a back who hasn't had enough playing time to prove squat.

by PaytonMenning on Feb 2, 2008 10:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

in both of his first two seasons
he had more carries than Micheal Turner's career high and everyone is drooling over Turner hitting the market. 43% of the people that voted in the current poll wanted Turner over Dunn or Julius Jones. Turner has 29 more carries in his career than Norwood and has been in the league two years longer. I'm not saying Norwood's a guaranteed star, but he's a surer thing than just about any RB in the league that isn't already a starter.

I see the stats ...
I still think the sample size is too low. Turner has had some explosive games himself, whereas I haven't seen or heard about any of Norwood's. It's anecdotal, and it's my opinion. I wouldn't say I want Turner instead either.

I have a feeling...
Get him on a team where the safeties aren't playing at the line of scrimmage due to an ineffective passing game and he'd be more than an adequate option out of the backfield.

Norwood
The problem with Norwood is that I am better at pass protection than he is.

by MasterRWayne on Feb 1, 2008 10:14 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

That's why I don't want Norwood
I'm just saying that Norwood's success behind the same line that Dunn struggles behind isn't a good sign for Dunn.

They are different backs though.
Dunn is a lot smaller.  That can be advantageous in some schemes.  I don't see why he isn't worth a shot.

Seeing that he wins all these off-the-field awards for the city he lives in...his character won't be a concern.  Plus he could help teach Addai a few things.

He's worth a shot for sure
but it's pretty obvious he's not the Warrick Dunn he use to be.

At what price
1.  I agree Dunn isn't what he used to be, but with some gas in the tank he's an upgrade (though only a little) over Keith.  This only makes sense if Dunn can be had for the veteran minimum.  Since he's reputedly a truly high-character guy, perhaps he'd play for less to get a chance at a ring.
The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in the stars, but in ourselves.

I know he is a good back, but...
I want him as a person.  He has done wonders in the community in Hotlanta.  He's the definition of a class-act.  It wouldn't be a stretch to say he is the classiest person in major North American pro sports.  I've always wanted him because of his character.  He's a Dungy-type player.

Count me in...
I'd love to see Dunn on the Colts for all the reasons stated here, especially for his great character.

As for the Norwood talk...I don't know if one can really just simply look at the ypc thing and determine someone is better/playing better. I am not saying he is or isn't but I think there are many factors that can come into play that skew the figure. Hell, I believe OL play harder for certain guys whether it is a like/dislike thing or they simply think one gay needs less help than the other.

Oh and there is the reality that maybe Dunn just doesn't care anymore in Atlanta and isn't trying as hard as he would if he was on a real team.

Here's hoping they cut him and Polian picks him up. I do agree though that he should be picked up for the league minimum and they can go from there.

A Colts RB
To be a successful running back in the Colts system, you have to do two things very well: catch out of the backfield, and block. And not like whiff and keep running, like MoJo pancaking Shawn Merriman.

So, can Warrick Dunn catch out of the backfield, and pick up blocks?
