Hence
My call to go for a tight end in the draft, someone like Rucker from Mizzou.  It's possible he could call to late in the second round due to the depth at other positions, namely RB.  Anyone have any other  ideas here?

But this is not saying that I think that Utecht is a bad TE.  He has proven to be a player this year, but doesn't have the game-changing ability that makes putting up with his durability worth it(Big Bad Bob does).

rucker
i doubt rucker will last til the end of the 2nd round.
but boy would he look nice lining up across from dallas in a 2 TE set.

Rucker
Talking to some people who are draft-savvy this weekend, there is the feeling that with backs like Kevin Smith and Mendenhall coming out of college like crazy, many players at other positions might get put in places of value at other positions.  Also, many teams that need a viable tight end also need a QB, and the teams that don't might not want to waste the opportunity to grab a top-notch back late in the first round, early in the second.  I believe Martin Rucker is the third or fourth ranked TE in the nation due to the USC/SEC bias amongst most draft rooms and media outlets.  The tight end from USC might be the only one taken in the first round.

Then again, I don't know if the Colts go offense with their first pick(Rd 2).  I believe they will try to get value from this pick, trying to cover more than one need like a DB/KR or WR/KR, though I'd argue we don't need another receiver but I guess one to compete with The Aroma and Crap would be good (I have a feeling Roy Hall will be special next year).  If we had to, I like Michigan State's Devin Thomas, who is very fast, but is projected to go as high as late in the first round (The Ginn Mistake all over again?).  Oh, and also Eddie Royal from VT, but we could only really go for him in the fourth, maybe the third with the last pick ;-).

Matt Miller from Mocking the Draft(A SB Nation blog) pointed me to a Donnie Avery out of Houston, looks like he could be the blurriest of the Blue Blur.  Unfortunately, the only DB who is especially strong at return duties is Aqib Talib, who will no doubt be a first rounder.

I am open to other suggestions but this is my feeling on things.  Maybe we could start on open thread here on rational targets forthe six rounds we'll draft in(discounting any possible compensatory picks on day 2)?

ya
Utecht is just too fragile.  He gets hurt on nearly every play, it's really frustrating.

Rucker?
Guys, we have Roy Hall, the man is a beast.

We still have no idea...
what they plan on doing with Hall, besides kick coverage. Before he was hurt they had him on the outside at receiver, but I think I remember Gonzo starting out there too while he learned the offense.
Is Hall a receiver? (he's fast enough) is he a TE? (he's big enough) is he another Dallas Clark H-back? I have no idea.

In other good (for the Colts) TE news
John Clayton is calling the Antonio Gates injury and dislocated toe and saying Gates is very unlikely to play this week.

We will probably need some O line
Both Jake's and Lilja's contracts are up at the end of the year.

healthy for the playoffs
dungy knows you need to be healthy for a playoff run.. other than freeney all the starters we have missed will be back...   once we won the division, figured a lot of these guys wouldn't play until they were 100% or it was playoff time...

i just wonder though, if this might be marvin's last year... if he is hurt enough this year I wonder if he would think retirement... part of me really wants him back next year to see him and peyton continue to destroy all QB/WR receivers... and part of me would rather see him go out still near the top of his game rather than drag it out like emmitt smith or jerry rice...

utecht
I'm not a fan of Utecht because he has this problem with holding onto a ball...it is annoying to see him  fumbling.

As for the injuries...good to hear and lets just hope it is true and they ALL do come back, save for possibly Utecht. I just wish Freeney (even though I still think he's over-hyped and overpaid) was not on IR and he could play. Oh well.

I also hope Marvin doesn't decide to retire after the season and I would like to think that IF he is 100% that he won't.

All I know is this offense should be even more deadly next season. Yikes!

Hall
Any Buckeye fans (sorry about last night) able to tell us about Roy?  He looks like an absolute beast, but I don't know if he has the skill set to be a tight end.  This is really the first year I showed any interest in college ball (since the season was so wild) so I have never seen film on him.  Though I did here some positive things about him at mini-camp and at training camp before he got injured.
