Michael David Smith continues to prove he's an idiot

For whatever reason, AOL Fanhouse continues to pay this nut fungus:

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney played nine games this year before he was lost for the season with a foot injury. His primary skill is rushing the passer, and his season ended with a grand total of 3.5 sacks, meaning he's tied for 73rd in the league in that category.

And he led all defensive players in Pro Bowl voting among fans.

So it's official: I hate democracy. In theory, yeah, it's nice, give the fans a vote in the Pro Bowl. In practice, sorry, the fans are morons if they vote for a guy who's out for the year and wasn't even having a great year before he was injured.

Pro Bowl selections are made by a combination of votes from fans, players and coaches. I don't necessarily want to see the fans lose their votes, but I do want to see them at least make some pretense of knowing what they're doing before voting. Otherwise, Pro Bowl balloting is a joke.

Yeah, I agree: The Pro Bowl sucks. But, to say Dwight Freeney was having a bad year prior to his foot injury simply tells me that Michael David Smith is a football analyst who doesn't WATCH FOOTBALL GAMES. Nothing infuriates me more than an ignorant statement made based on looking at one or two stats. Michael Dumbass Smith took a look at one stat (sacks) and concluded that Freeney's season sucked. He didn't watch any games. He didn't look at the QB pressures, the yards per pass, or even the defensive scoring rankings. He just thought Freeney's only a sacker. What? Only 3.5 sacks. What a crappy season. He sucks.

Seriously, what a schmuck.

Obviously, Dwight does not belong on the Pro bowl roster this year, but neither does Jason Taylor, Ray Lewis, and eleven Cowboys players (barf!). But you are a total clueless idiot if you don't think Dwight Freeney is one of the best defensive players in football. And if you thought that 2007 was a bad year for him pre-foot injury, you simply don't know what the hell you are talking about. From my vantage point, it looks like fans did something Michael didn't do: They watched games Freeney played in.
