Here's some perspective for anyone who makes the idiotic claim that Bill Polian "overpays" to keep his players:
The Vikings just signed WR Bernard Berrian to a six-year, $42 million contract, with $16 million in guaranteed money. Berrian best season as a pro came last season, where he caught 71 passes for 951 yards and 5 TDs. Flashback to 2006, when Bill Polian re-signed Reggie Wayne to a six-year deal worth $40 million, including $13.5 million in bonus cash. I remember many people screaming that Polian overpaid for Wayne. Prior to signing the contract, Wayne's career season was 2004 when he caught 77 balls for over 1200 yards and 12 TDs.
When I see players like Berrian, Tommy Kelly, Donte Stallworth, and Alan Faneca (who got $21 million in guaranteed money) get these absurd free agent contracts, I want to strangle the idiots who claim that Bill Polian "overpays" to keep players like Bob Sanders, Dwight Freeney, Reggie Wayne, and Dallas Clark. Considering what these guys would make on an open market, the Colts kept them at discount.
