Super Bowl Prop Bets Contest Results

For (almost) everyone's sake, I'm glad we weren't betting real money in this contest.  While it was a lot of fun following along with some of the normally insignificant parts of a football game, only 3 people would have won money.  Here's a quick snapshot of those 3:

colteys 2823.46 12 0
lsahr 2489.19 12 1

Congratulations to shake and bake, as he correctly picked 9 of the 12 bets he picked.  He gets the satisfaction of knowing he would have won $700 had he actually put money down.

Some of the bets were not game related, so I'll go through those with the winners:

  • Coin Toss: Heads.  This was year 12 in a row that the NFC team won the coin toss.  If I told you that 12 years ago, it would have been a 0.02% chance (1/4096) of happening.  Pretty amazing.
  • Which Super Bowl Commercial was the best?: Doritos.  You can check out the ratings here.  This was my favorite as well, with 2nd place being the Cash4Gold commercial with Ed McMahon and MC Hammer.  That was great.
  • Bruce Springsteen's first song?: Tenth-Avenue Freeze Out. Of course he picks a song that wasn't on the list to choose from.  Thanks Bruce.
  • Which Super Bowl will have more viewers?: Super Bowl XLIII. This one didn't seem too tough, as Super Bowl XL was a snoozer.  This year's edition was the highest rated in history.
  • Which state will have the largest market share in TV Ratings?: Pennsylvania.  This isn't an exact answer, but Phoenix was ranked 9th in terms of city ratings, and Pittsburgh was #1.  Funny enough, Indianapolis was 10th.
  • Will Matt Millen pick the correct team to win the Super Bowl on the NBC Pregame?: No.  I posted it right after his pick of the Cardinals, which was the kiss of death.  Dungy got the pick right, of course.
  • Who will the MVP of the Game thank first?: Nobody.  If somebody can show me otherwise, I'll change it.  I listened for anything remotely close to a thank you, and found nothing.  It was all about Santonio.
  • What will happen with the Stock Market the day after Super Bowl XLIII?: Market Down.  The Dow Jones was down on Monday 63.79 points.  Three years ago after the Steelers won, the market was down 55.95 points.  Another reason the Steelers winning is not good for anyone.

Everything else can be found in the box score.  Both QBs beat their previous passing yardage, and the catch by Holmes put him 4 yards over Fitzgerald for most in the game.

Full standings are after the jump.  The column "No Bets" is the number of bets that you didn't bet on.  I recommend to all of you not to become professional gamblers (myself included).  These were harder than expected.
