Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State

26. Baltimore Ravens

Drafter: shake n bake

Reasons for drafting: This situation would cause a massive schism in the Baltimore fanbase. The local hero at a obvious need position, or the BPA who could contribute, will be needed down the line, but would likely be pushing out a fan favorite. Before the Foxworth, Carr and Rolle (re-)signings I would have gone with neither and taken Man-CB extraordinaire Sean Smith, but now Baltimore has a solid CB corps allowing them to get Flacco another target. Too much of DHB's appeal seems to be local ties and a blazing 40, neither of which are great reasons for a pick, leaving me with TE Brandon Pettigrew (who visited with the Ravens yesterday).

Pettigrew will give them a badly needed receiving threat while also improving the running game that the offense was built off of. TE is a well stocked position at the moment, but Todd Heap has been a shadow of himself and his slated to make 14 million in salary over the next two seasons. The Ravens added "Franchise Player" L.J. Smith on a one year contract, you only need to hear the bitterness and sarcasm that Eagles fans said "Franchise Player" with to understand why Smith isn't much of an answer. The Ravens get a player who has been projected as high as #11 overall who can improve both their passing and running game.
