I remember last year's game against the Lions during the regular season. Despite the fact that Detroit did not win a single game last year, in the game against Indy (and in other games I saw of them in 2008) the Lions were a well-coached, determined team that did not quit. With a team that bad last year, and a situation so horrible that the franchise is the laughing stock of professional sports, it would have been very easy for the players to quit.
They didn't. Because of that, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Lions.
Now, the Lions are indeed better than last year. Matt Millen is gone. They have a true franchise QB in waiting. They have weapons on offense. And, like the Colts, they are using this "dress rehearsal" pre-season game to evaluate how far they've come.
We have game previews here, here, and here. Just like our friends at POD, we're looking to see how our team has progressed. Players ruled out for the game are Raheem Brock, Jacob Lacey, Matt Giordano, Ryan Lilja, Michael Coe, Mike Hart, Kelvin Hayden, and Colin Cloherty. Bob Sanders and Adam Vinatieri are still on PUP.
This is your open thread. Enjoy!
