Anthony Davis, OT - Rutgers
Pick made by SupermanWearsBobSander'sPJs:
The Cowboys have a need at Safety and at WR (Roy Williams isn't going to cut it). The Cowboys also have a real need on the offensive line! But [S Taylor] Mays, [WR Regis] Benn or [WR Golden] Tate do not offer the value at their positions that Davis does. How Anthony Davis fell this far is a typical draft surprise and an absolute gift for the 'boys. Arguably the (second) best OT in this draft, he has the size and strength to play LT in the NFL. He is the type of "mauling" lineman that Dallas likes.
While Cowboys fans are convinced that Doug Free can play LT, with Davis, they will not need him to. If [T Flozell] Adams starts at LT this year, Davis can start at LG. And when Adams is done, Davis can move to LT and Free could possibly move to LG (a solid left side to the Cowboy's line for years to come).
How will he impact the 2010 Cowboys?
Immediate Impact: At the least Davis can be substituted in at regular intervals to rest the starters with almost no drop-off. But I think Anthony Davis starts opening day. The question is where and this depends on Flozell Adams. If Davis comes into camp ready and devoted to learn and give 100%, he should increase the productivity of the OLine in run and pass blocking. This could lead to better years from [QB Tony] Romo, and the RB crew (led by [Marion] Barber).
If Davis is taken #27 by the Cowboys, he would be the 1st OT taken in the first round by the Cowboys since 1981, when they selected Howard Richards #26 overall. He would also be only the fourth OT taken from Rutgers ever, and the first since 1996 (Robert Barr). He'd also be the 2nd first round pick in Rutgers history, and the 2nd in as many years (Kenny Britt).
