Patrick Robinson, CB - Florida State

Having secured a top tackle prospect in the first, GB addresses its unpredictable secondary by picking up FSU cornerback Patrick Robinson. While I'd have preferred to go safety (to add much-needed depth behind stud Nick Collins and Atari Bigby), cornerback is also a concern for the Pack. Pass-rush is also much needed, but our draft has already seen most of the top OLB prospects taken, and I'm guessing Ted Thompson doesn't want to try his hand at transitioning a DE again (see Kampman, Aaron). The need at cornerback is definitely there, though: Al Harris is coming off major knee surgery and Charles Woodson is 33.

Robinson is a big, talented corner who prefers man coverage. He's fast (4.4 at his Pro-day, slightly slower at the combine), and won't get beat deep. While he hasn't picked off a whole lot of passes since stealing 6 his sophomore year, he is decisive and breaks up plenty of passes (11 in '09). He also recorded 50 tackles last year and plays aggressively against the run. In short, he's got room to grow and with two experienced pro-bowlers ahead of him, should be groomed to start outside within a year or two.
