Even though OT looks to be the biggest need for the Colts, I've been foiled for the 2nd round in a row when it comes to good vale at OT, so I'm looking to upgrade the Defense and Special teams, and taking Best Player Available, with two sport star Chad Jones out of LSU. At 6'2", 221 lbs, Jones is a guy who played Safety in college, but fits in size-wise with the Colts Linebackers, which is where I think he'd fit in best. His coverage skills improved year to year, including more INTs in his senior year (3) than he did in his previous 3 seasons (2).
Jones is also known for being an extremely hard hitter, and a terrific run stopper. Just imagine if he could turn out to have Cato June's pass defense skills, with the ability to stop the run. I'd take that in a heartbeat, wouldn't you? That's, of course, a best case scenario, but certainly possible with Jones. He also played quite a bit on special teams, which is always needed for the Colts.
How will he impact the 2010 Colts?
With Jones's versatility, he could be a backup at both SAM Linebacker and at Safety, especially with the known injury problems of Bob Sanders. He'd definitely play special teams, and I think he'd be the Punt Returner, even over first round pick Devin McCourty.
