Some new information in the Reggie Wayne credit card fraud case suggests that the woman claiming that Reggie knew she was using the plastic to rack up $95,000 in charges may have been lying. From Yahoo Sports' Shutdown Corner [emphasis mine]:
That the woman — 26-year-old Natasha McKenzie of Indianapolis — used the card is not in question. But she says Wayne voluntarily gave her his credit card information, and that he knew she was out there spending, according to the Indianapolis Star."Reggie knew what was going on. I sent Reggie plenty of thank you messages," McKenzie told [WXIN-59 in Indianapolis]. "He knew everything that was going on. There was nothing fraud about it. . . . Reggie gave me all of his credit card information. I still have record of everything he gave me."
Wayne says otherwise. He filed a theft report with police saying that an ex-girlfriend used his credit card to spend a whole lot of money, and said he doesn't know how she got the credit card digits.
What do the police say?
"The suspect has been interviewed by our detective and has made admissions to using the card numbers without authorization," an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police spokesman said. "There is the potential for charges being filed."
McKenzie also made claims that she and Reggie Wayne were having an affair, but since it seems she might have lied about Wayne allowing her to use the card she might also have lied about the affair.
In general, this new info seems to make Reggie's side of the story a bit more creditable than Natasha McKenzie's, who may have to deal with formal charges filed against her fairly soon.
For me, I keep going back to The Big Lead's Jason McIntyre and his rather douchy indictment of Wayne when the story broke:
First Marvin Harrison, and now Reggie Wayne. Hmmmm. Hope you’ve got your respective houses in order, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie.
Again, this is coming from a guy who roots for a team that features a wide receiver who supposedly attacks women in nightclubs and on airplanes. Jason, it is wise to make sure your own team's house is in order before you start throwing around crap about a another team's wide receiving corps.
Oh, and we kicked your ass in the AFC Championship Game. Just FYI.
