The first big cutdown from 80 men to 75 was yesterday for the Indianapolis Colts. Those who were given pink slips were Garrett Lindholm, Dudley Guice, Trevor Anderson, and Andrew Tyshovnytsky. Marcus McCauley, who was signed just last week, was placed on the waived-injured list (which essentially means he's waived).
None of the cuts were surprising. Some felt Lindholm would battle Adam Vinatieri for the field goal kicking duties, but that was always a load of bull. Lindholm was kept around in order to give Vinatieri a breather in camp, and to rest Pat McAfee from kicking off in preseason. He had no chance to unseat Vinatieri unless Adam re-aggravated an injury. It's unfortunate Dudley Guice didn't show enough to impress the team to keep him. You might recall that Coltzilla did a nice interview with him this off-season.
We hope Dudley lands on his feet with another team.
The Colts also claimed cornerback Danny Gorrer off waivers. This is an interesting move in that Gorrer was not signed as a free agent. He was claimed by the Colts after the Rams let him go, indicating the Colts must really like him. Gorrer is known as a good special teams player. He spent some time of the Saints practice squad last year, along with current Colts defensive tackle Marlon Favorite.
