I'd like to give a shout out to Casey and his crew at Off The Wagon, a bar in NYC that features many Colts fans who were cheering hard this afternoon despite a lackluster effort by the Colts run defense (gee, where have we heard that before) and a horrible job by the Colts offensive line (gee, where have we heard... oh, nevermind). Though the outcome was disappointing, it was fun hanging with Colts fans at Off The Wagon. Thanks for inviting me, guys.
Obviously, everyone is pretty pissed off that the Colts dropped their second opener in three years. I'll have my thoughts up tomorrow morning. Needless to say, I'll have some choice words for Jim Caldwell, Bill Polian, and the two oft-injured players who shall remain nameless at this time.
Anyway, take comfort in knowing that the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2007 champs all lost their home opener (thanks dmstorm22). Again, this is a Super Bowl or bust season. Losing Week One does not change that. However, at some point to excuse of 'We just need to tighten things up of bit' is going to wear thin with fans. I'm a little sick of seeing scrub, no-name running backs have career days on this defense. There's simply no excuse for it to happen, aside from bad coaching, poor execution, or outright incompetence. None are acceptable.
So, by all means, vent away here. If folks are looking for a silver-lining, how about this: At least we don't have to worry about Bill Polian being an ass to fans and media when they question him about a possible undefeated season.
Go Colts!
