From Adam Schefter:
Eagles name Jim Washburn, formerly of the Tennessee Titans, as their new defensive line coach. Great hire.
Agreed. Congrats to the Eagles. Washburn might be the best d-line coach in football, with John Teerlinck of the Colts coming up second or third.
Washburn was a tremendous assistant coach for the Titans. It makes absolutely no sense that they would let him go. But hey, I'm not going to complain. Tennessee' defense just got worse for 2011, and that's good news for Peyton Manning and the Colts.
Washburn, you may remember, is good friends with former-Colts offensive line coach Howard Mudd. The two took a trip to Africa two years ago. When you get a chance, watch the video linked in the article. Your opinion of Washburn should shoot up about 200%.
[UPDATE]: From Jimmy at our Titans blog, Music City Miracles:
I don't think we can stress enough what a huge loss this is for the Titans. The Titans had one good thing going for them on defense and now he is gone. As others have mentioned, this also probably lessens the possibility that Albert Haynesworth would come back to the Titans if he does get released by the Redskins this offseason.
We will start to compile a list of possible replacements, but there is no way they are going to get anyone even close to as good as Wash.
