With The 7th Pick In The 2011 Stampede Blue Community Mock Draft, The San Francisco 49ers Select...

Prince Amukamara - CB, Nebraska

Pick made by nopuntintended:

The 49ers are close to a good team. Of course everyone predicted they would win the division last year and look what transpired. That being said, they are on the cusp again and while quarterback is a desperate need, starting over with a rookie quarterback is a waste here at this spot. The Niners are at the point where its win-now. They've got the players for a 3-4 run if they can find a sold starting quarterback, but if they don't find success this year momentum to rebuild completely will grow. Rather than look through the draft, I think they fill their quarterback need with a veteran who has the experience and can guide the team without making costly mistakes.

Granted, the success of Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan and Sam Bradford will tempt San Francisco, but those three are special quarterbacks and have proven to be the exception to the rule. A Jake Locker or Blaine Gabbert out of Missouri may turn out to be excellent quarterbacks in the league, but I don't think the Niners, nor many other teams feel they will be ready this year.

So, instead of quarterback, the 49ers will turn to defense. Their secondary is young and talented but shaky. Nate Clements has been the rock of the secondary for a few years now and has held his own, but as a unit there is no doubt improvements are needed. To shore up the cornerback position and provide help opposite Nate Clements, Prince Amukamara out of Nebraska is the 49ers' guy. Amukamara is a fast shut down corner. Watching his highlights are enough to make any Colts fan jealous, plus anyone named Prince should find great success in the bay area.

Amukamara makes the Niners secondary dangerous and alleviates the burden on Patrick Willis, who is arguably the best linebacker in the game. Does he step in and become a Revis-like pro bowler in his first year? No. Does me make mistakes and get beat? Of course (he's lucky he doesn't have to go up against Peyton). But Amukamara is the second best corner in the draft and one of the best playmakers on defense. 5-6 interceptions a distinct possibility. Either way, look for Harbaugh to and Amukamara to form a long and successful partnership.

If Amukamara is taken 7th overall, it'll be the first time since 1981 that the 49ers drafted a Defensive Back in the top 10 (Ronnie Lott).  It'll also be the first time since 1998 that a player from Nebraska was taken in the top 7 in the draft (Grant Wistrom).
