NFL Lockout 2011: Owners And Players Might Agree Soon On Second Extension

More progress on the labor front:

A day after hammering out a one-day extension to Threat Level:  Midnight, the NFL and the players’ union are on the verge of formally extending the deadline by one week or more.

As the two sides meet not together but privately with mediator George Cohen, Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reports that a second extension is "all but a done deal."

Coupled with Mike Silver’s report that an extension will lead to a new CBA, perhaps this means that a settlement of all issues is "all but a done deal," too.

I'll re-state what many others have been tweeting and posting about all day: Silver's article is required reading if you want to know what is going on, and what is at stake, with this labor fight. That both sides are willing to agree on another extension is one of the most positive pieces of news we've heard on this issue in a long time.

Here's to hoping something is worked out during this extension, and that the league we fans get in 2011 is just as good as the one we cheered for from 2006- 2010.
