The other news breaking this morning involves Colts new 'gameday consultant' Jim Tressel. Mike Freeman of CBS Sports was the first to tweet that the Colts have suspended Tressel until Week Seven of the 2011 NFL season.
Tressel was forced to resign as head coach of Ohio State this year after lying to NCAA investigators in regards to certain OSU players, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor, had accepted illegal benefits. Both Tressel and Pryor were suspended by the school before they left for the NFL. Pryor was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 2011 Supplemental NFL Draft while Tressel was hired by the Colts.
The Indianapolis Star has the following statement from Colts vice chairman Bill Polian:
"We have decided to begin Coach Tressel’s employment effective with our seventh regular season game."
"We have informed the league office of our decision and expect that they will be supportive of it."
Now, we wait for the Colts press conference at none Eastern to update everyone on status of Peyton Manning. We also have this new update from Peter King:
Manning will stop practicing today. Because there are 4 docs/neurosurgeons involved in his care, I don't expect any decisions for 48 hours.
So, no practice for Peyton. He's done for Week One.
