Last week's victory over the Titans really did a number on the Colts backfield, from an injury standpoint. Robert Hughes was placed on IR yesterday with a knee injury sustained in that game, and now we have word from Bruce Arians (via Phil Wilson) that Delone Carter will miss two-three weeks with an ankle injury. Donald Brown was placed on IR yesterday along with Hughes, but Brown did not dress for the Titans game.
This means newly re-signed backs Mewelde Moore and Deji Karim could see significant playing time along with Vick Ballard. Moore was cut back in October while Karim did not make the cutdown to 53 back in August. Both were re-signed yesterday.
The benefit to bringing back Moore and Karim is they know Arians' offense. Moore, in particular, is very familiar with it, having had success with Arians in Pittsburgh.
It will be interesting to see if Carter's absence hurts Indy's short yardage and goal line sets. The Colts have been much improved this season running the ball from those sets. Carter has three rushing touchdowns on the season with 32 carries.
