Mike Shanahan, Daniel Snyder, and the Washington Redskins (once again) win the offseason. In a HUGE move that might close out a week of truly insane football news, the Redskins sent three first round picks and a second rounder to the Rams for the rights to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
With this pick, Washington reportedly intents to draft Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.
The trade was first reported by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. The trade involves sending the Redskins 2012, 2013, and 2014 first rounders to the Rams. Washington also sends St. Louis their second round pick this year.
Another interesting detail in this trade is a report from Adam Schefter that the Browns actually tried to muscle in and work out a trade of their own for the No. 2 pick. However, Washington beat them to the punch, leaving Browns G.M. Mike Holmgren with egg on his face.
All this news comes at the end of a week which saw the Saints gets pummeled in the press for the bounty scandal and the Colts part ways with Peyton Manning.
Oh, and speaking of Peyton, despite having the No. 2 pick, Washington is still trying to sign Manning even though reports say he has no interest in playing for Snyder in the nation's capital.
