A day after releasing David Legree, the Colts have released another quarterback. Owner Jim Irsay announced today that the Colts have released Trevor Vittatoe.
Vittatoe was signed by the Colts the day after they released Peyton Manning, making him the quarterback who took Manning's spot on the roster. That is pretty much his only claim to fame in the NFL. He was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent last offseason, only to be released before the regular season started.
No corresponding move has been announced, so the Colts currently have one spot open on their 90-man roster.
The Colts are now down to three quarterbacks: rookies Andrew Luck and Chandler Harnish, along with veteran Drew Stanton. I wrote yesterday that I thought all three would make the final 53-man roster. I still think so. It will be interesting to see whether the Colts add another quarterback before training camp. Also a possibility, however, is that the Colts will stick with three and give Luck and Harnish additional playing time as they are rookies, as well as Stanton who is learning a new system.
