The Indianapolis Colts today released 20 players and placed two more on injured reserve to get their roster down to 53, which is the final roster number.
But don't make the mistake of thinking every one of these 53 guys will be with the Colts in a week - or in a day or two, at that. The Colts will be very active in the next few days, evaluating other team's cut players and deciding which players would help them. Look for the Colts to address the cornerback position, the offensive line and the nose tackle position (Antonio Johnson is actually the only active nose tackle currently).
For now, however, here is a list of the Colts' cuts:
Released: WR Jeremy Ross, RB Darren Evans, TE Andre Smith, OT Mike Tepper, C Zane Taylor, OT Steven Baker, DT Jason Shirley, ILB Greg Lloyd, TE Kyle Miller, OG Hayworth Hicks, OLB Jerry Brown, S Latarrius Thomas, DT Chigbo Anunoby, WR Kashif Moore, LS Justin Snow
Waived-Injured: RB Deji Karim, DE James Aiono, LB Tim Fugger (7th round pick)
Injured Reserve: WR Jabin Sambrano, CB Korey Lindsey
Also of note, the Colts took OT George Foster off of injured reserve. It is possible that the move is for the new injured reserve rule in which a player can come back midseason, or possibly an injury settlement has been reached. Not sure what exactly is going on with Foster, but when I find out I will let you know.
The biggest move, and really the only notable one, is the release of Justin Snow. I wrote about him earlier, so I won't spend much time on him here. Besides him, there were really no surprises, and Snow wasn't much of a surprise either.
The Colts have their roster set at 53 - for now. More moves (probably quite a few) to come - keep it here at Stampede Blue for the latest.
