The Ravens defeated the 49ers 34-31 in Super Bowl XLVI in a game that was completely insane. Joe Flacco won MVP honors, tossing for 287 yards, 3 TDs, and completing 67% of his passes. Jacoby Jones ran a kickoff back 108 yards for a touchdown to start the third quarter, and shortly after that play, the lights went out in the Super Dome. For 34 minutes, there was no power.
Once the power got back on, two things happened, Ravens stellar defensive tackle Haloti Ngata got injured, and the 49ers took advantage. They scored 17 points in the third quarter, and after a 15-yard touchdown run by quarterback Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco cut Baltimore's lead 31-29. However, SF failed to convert on the ensuing two-point conversion.
After Baltimore tacked on a Justin Tucker field goal, the game came down to one final drive for the 49ers. Kaepernick drove the 49ers the length of the field, but on fourth and goal, he overthrew Michael Crabtree in the right corner of the endzone. Baltimore took over on downs, and then took an intentional safety which, in effect, ran out the clock.
Final score: 34-31, Ravens.
