Earlier today, Brad Wells mentioned this little tidbit at the bottom of his article about the Colts' and Greg Jennings:
Other free agent rumors that may or may not be debunked in the next ten hours or so involve CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora linking the Colts with Paul Kruger, Ed Reed, and 49ers tackle Ricky Jean Francois. This is the first time I've seen Indy connected to Jean Francis, a 6'3, 300 lbs NT-DE.
Well, now there is another report linking the Colts to Jean-Francois. This from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport via twitter:
#49ers DT Ricky Jean-Francois will take visits before making a choice, per source. Teams interested: #Eagles, #Colts, #Saints, #Titans
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 12, 2013
Yeah, the Colts need help on their defensive line, and Jean-Francois can play both defensive end and nose tackle in the 3-4 defense. At 26 years old, he would be an appealing option to many teams, such as the Colts. He figures to make around $3-4 million a year, so he wouldn't break the bank by any means. If the Colts are serious about landing him, however, it may take a little more than that to lure Jean-Francois away from the other teams pursuing him.
The Colts defensive line currently looks like this: Defensive End: Clifton Geathers, Lawrence Guy, Cory Redding, Fili Moala. Defensive Tackle: Kellen Heard, Ricardo Matthews. Nose Tackle: Brandon McKinney, Antonio Johnson, Martin Tevaseau, Josh Chapman. There is room for improvement there, the question is whether that improvement will come from Ricky Jean-Francois.
Anyone else tired of all this speculation? 4:00 can't get here soon enough.
