Apparently, Now the Colts ARE Interested In WR Darrius Heyward-Bey

Heyward-Bey is more 'Wopper Jr.' than 'Wopper.'

USA TODAY Sports

Last week, a source "with knowledge of the situation" told Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com that Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was not on the Indianapolis Colts' free agent radar. It's was the New York Jets who had interest, but, apparently, nothing came of that interest. Today, NFL.com reports that Heyward-Bey plans to visit the Colts. NFL.com also seems to believe that Heyward-Bey is Jim Irsay's "wopper" free agent receiver that the Colts owner tweeted out to his followers two weeks ago.

However, local Indiana-based media seem to disagree with NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal on whether or not Heyward-Bey is indeed "wopper."

OK. That seems logical especially when you factor in George Bremer's point that "wopper" was offered a deal (and it seems to have fallen through) while this Heyward-Bey visit is the first time both sides are talking. This would stay consistent with the PFT report last week that Heyward-Bey wasn't on Indy's radar.

Basically, what looks to have happened here is that "wopper" fell through. Thus, the Colts are moving on to "wopper jr.," which seems to be Darrius Heyward-Bey and his career numbers of 140 catches, 2,071 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He was the 7th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, taken ahead of B.J. Raji, Brian Orakpo, and Jeremy Maclin.

Note: Colts.com has confirmed the visit. Every single time Colts.com has done a blog article or Twitter picture feature on a visiting UFA player this year, that player has signed with the Colts. Heyward-Bey is expected to stay in Indianapolis until tomorrow.
