When all is said and done, the 2013 season for the Indianapolis Colts begins today. All players under contract are allowed to return to the Colts team facilities today to begin offseason workouts. These workouts come after a mandatory three month layoff since the Colts were eliminated from the playoffs by the eventual-champion Ravens.

The layoff is mandated by the collective bargaining agreement.

These workouts involve all veteran players, including free agent acquisitions Erik Walden, Darrius Heyward-Bey, LaRon Landry, and Ricky Jean Francois, just to name a few. The Colts signed eleven new players to their roster this offseason.

Also returning for offseason training is corner Josh Gordy. Gordy signed his restricted free agent tender, allowing him to participate.

These workouts serve as a reunion for new Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and players Andrew Luck, Coby Fleener, and Griff Whalen. All three played under Hamilton at Stanford. Hamilton is expected to install a variation of the West Coast Offense this season, and it is during workouts like the ones scheduled this week that the concepts behind this new offense will be installed.

Newest free agent signing Josh McNary is not able to participate in these workouts. He is still fulfilling obligations to the U.S. Army. McNary told media last week he expects to join the Colts in late May or early June.
