Josh Gordy will return to the Indianapolis Colts in 2013.
I know. HUGE news! I can barely contain my excitement.
Really.
In all seriousness, it's good news for Gordy, and the Colts have yet another veteran corner and special teams contributor. The third-year corner, who was acquired from the Rams last year via a trade, was an exclusive rights free agent this offseason. The Colts tendered him, and right before the team's offseason workouts were to begin, Gordy signed his tender.
Gordy had 15 tackles and a sack in 2012. Overall, he played solid, especially considering that, for much of 2012, the Colts had to keep their safeties down "in the box" to support the defense's porous line. The Colts ranked 29th in run defense in 2012, surrendering 2,200 yards on the ground at 5.1 a carry.
Gordy joins fellow returning corner Darius Butler and Cassius Vaughn. Butler signed a two-year contract while Vaughn was tendered similar to Gordy. They join Vontae Davis and free agent acquisition Greg Toler in the defensive backfield.
