2013 NFL Draft: Colts Select OC Khaled Holmes, USC, With The 121st Overall Pick

One round after taking Illinois guard Hugh Thornton in the third round, the Indianapolis Colts continued to create their "cauldron of competition" along the offensive line by taking USC center Khaled Holmes with the 121st overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Colts showed a great deal of pre-draft interest in Holmes, including head coach Chuck Pagano attending his Pro Day at USC.

Holmes does not direct an immediate need, but it does send a clear signal that general manager Ryan Grigson is not confident in the play of centers Samson Satele and A.Q. Shipley. While it is questionable to pass on a receiver like Quinton Patton or a pass rusher like UConn's Trevardo Williams so late in the fourth round, both Grigson and Colts owner Jim Irsay are on record saying they want the offensive line improved. Andrew Luck was battered and sacked far too many times in 2012.

The addition of Holmes is a step towards lowering those sack numbers and keeping Luck's jersey clean.
