2013 NFL Draft: Colts Select S John Boyett, Oregon, With The 192nd Pick In The Sixth Round

After spending the third, fourth, and fifth rounds upgrading the offensive and defensive lines, the Colts turned their attention to the defensive backfield in the sixth round, selecting Oregon's John Boyett with the 192nd overall pick.

The 5'11, 204 lb. safety was a second-team All-Pac 12 junior. One game into his senior season at Oregon, he opted to have corrective surgery after tearing his patellar tendons in both his knees. During his junior season, he earned 108 tackles, including 17 tackles in Oregon's Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.

At his Pro Day, Boyett clocked a 4.57 time in the 40-yard dash, an impressive feat considering his knee surgeries (again, plural) from September 2012. No surprise: The Colts attended that Pro Day.

It's likely Boyett fell so far in the draft because of the injury concerns. However, he fits a need at safety and likely can contribute on special teams. When you get down to the sixth round, that's the kind of player you're looking for.
