Take this post with a grain of salt. Who starts and who doesn't on he first day of camp isn't an exact barmeter of who will start Week One of the regular season. Things will change.
However, when we note who is and who isn't working with the first and second string units at the start of camp, we do it as a way to inform you how the coaching staff views certain players on the roster. If I have to explain to you that first string equates to good and how second and third string means not-so-good, then this post is going to go over your head.
Just think of it this way: Guys working first string now will survive the 53-man cut-down. They have a job. It's "theirs to lose." Guys who are running second string have a 50/50 shot. Everyone else is lunch meat.
That said:
- The starting wide receivers during the Colts morning walk through were Reggie Wayne and Darrius Heyward-Bey. T.Y. Hilton was the No. 3 receiver.
- LaVon Brazill and Griff Whalen were the second string WRs.
- Starting offensive line was LT Anthony Castanzo, LG Donald Thomas, OC Samson Satele, RG Mike McGlynn, and RT Gosder Cherilus.
- Starting outside linebackers were Robert Mathis and Erik Walden.
- Starting inside backers were Kavell Conner and Jerrell Freeman.
It's also important to note that rookie guard Hugh Thornton was seen at camp with a protective boot on his foot. He did not practice. ILBer Pat Angerer has started camp on the PUP list, still recovering from off-season foot surgery.
