Colts To Workout WR Laurent Robinson

The Colts look to be making more roster moves in light of all the injuries at training camp.

Phil Sears-US PRESSWIRE

The big surprise to everyone (especially ESPN's Chris Mortensen) last night during the Colts' evening pracitce was the return of Darrius Heyward-Bey. DHB had suffered what was reported as an MCL sprain. Mortensen went on ESPN Tuesday and said the Colts wideout would miss significant time.

Heyward-Bey then showed up in full pads Tuesday night and ran several WR drills.

DHB did not, however, practice with the team during the scrimmage, and the Colts told media later that they are looking to ease him back into the fold.

Thus, it makes sense that Indianapolis will, per a source from Adam Caplan, bring in former Jaguars and Cowboys wide receiver Laurent Robinson for a workout.

Robinson signed a 5-year, $32.5 million contract with the Jags just last year. But, after one terrible season in spotted-kitty land, the Jaguars and Robinson parted ways.

Part of the reason the Jags gave Robinson that ridiculous contract was he caught a career-high 54 passes for 858 yards with the Cowboys in 2011. The other reason they gave Robinson a $32 million deal with $14 million of it guaranteed is because JAGUARS!!!

Robinson only caught 24 passes for the Jags last year, but he also missed nine games due to concussions. Per ESPN's Paul Kuharsky, the first one he sustained happened when he landed and hit his head on concrete pavers near the practice field during Jacksonville's training camp last year. Ouch.

There was a noted disagreement between the Jaguars and Robinson this offseason before they released him pertaining to his health. The Jags said Robinson passed a physical and declared him "healthy" before releasing him. Robinson told the Associated Press that he wasn't healthy, and that he was still feeling what seemed to be the after effects of multiple concussions.

In simpler language, Robinson suggested that the Jags physical he took back in March was total B.S.

If Robinson is healthy now, he can provide some serious production to a Colts WR corps that is pretty thin right now.

Yes, yes, yes... I know everyone is IN LOVE with Griff Whalen, Jabin Sambrano, and a bunch of other guys who have never suited up and played in a real NFL game. Robinson is a proven NFL player who can produce in actual games, not just night scrimmages or preseason exhibitions.

Big difference.
