Colts Inactives vs. Texans: A.Q. Shipley Inactive

Here are the Colts' inactives for their game today versus the Texans.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

In-season, the NFL has a 53-man active roster.  On game day, however, the NFL has just a 46-man active roster.  What this means is that teams need to have seven players inactive each Sunday, and the list of those players who will not play (whether for injury reasons or simply because the team needs seven inactives) are typically released an hour or so before game time.  With the Indianapolis Colts hosting the Houston Texans today, let's take a look at the inactives for the game.

Colts Inactives vs. Texans:

Hugh Thornton, OL

Joe Reitz, OL

A.Q. Shipley, OL

Jalil Brown, CB

Henoc Muamba, LB

Andrew McDonald, OL

Montori Hughes, DL

A few notes:

  • The two players who were ruled out on Friday were Hugh Thornton (knee) and Joe Reitz (ankle), both due to injuries.  That leaves the Colts without their top two right guards, though last week Khaled Holmes played well there and A.Q. Shipley has played well there in the past.  Of course, as Phillip B. Wilson reported on Friday, however, the Colts are making the move to start Lance Louis at right guard.  Yeah, the same Lance Louis who has not been good this season - including the last time the Colts played the Texans.  This really is an inexplicable move by Chuck Pagano and one that, if Andrew Luck is pressured heavily today, will certainly be brought up again.
  • Oh, and that report by Phil B. also said that A.Q. Shipley would be inactive - and he is.  This too is an inexplicable move.  There will be two players starting along the offensive line today who Shipley has outplayed this year.  Last Sunday, when he came in for the injured Jonotthan Harrison, he looked good.  Really, the only reason for having Shipley inactive that I can think of is Chuck Pagano being too stubborn - in that he doesn't want Shipley to have to come in again and outplay the starter and again show that the move away from Shipley by Pagano was wrong.  It's a stupid move and an inexplicable one as well.
  • Zach Kerr is active today, while Montori Hughes is inactive.
