Colts re-sign RB Ahmad Bradshaw to one-year deal

Colts general manager Ryan Grigson continues to spend and spend. After locking up corner Vontae Davis to a 4-year, $39 million deal - with an astounding $20 million in guaranteed dough - Grigson then inked running back Ahmad Bradshaw to a more modest one-year deal, per a report from PFT.

Bradshaw played in only three games last season after signing with the Colts as a free agent. He injured his neck in the Week 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers, and subsequently underwent surgery to correct a bulging disc on his neck, similar to what Peyton Manning had to deal with in 2011.

It remains to be seen if Bradshaw will have an impact on the 2014 Colts. Running backs like Trent Richardson and Vick Ballard, who is himself recovering from an ACL injury to his right knee, are ahead of Bradshaw on the depth chart. They're also younger and, in the case of Richardson, have higher expectations from management.

If Bradshaw is the No. 3 back, then this signing is somewhat odd. Third string backs normally play special teams, and Bradshaw is hardly the type of player that can run down kickoffs and punts anymore. Perhaps he's a security blanket for Richardson should the third-year back from Alabama struggle, as he did in 2013. Who knows?

What we do know is Bradshaw will be back. Hopefully, he can stay (reasonably) healthy.
