Despite a long list of 18 pending unrestricted free agents, including 8 that were starters last season, the Indianapolis Colts opted not to use their exclusive franchise tag today. The deadline to tag a player - and, thus, insure they will be on the roster for 2014 with, at least, a one-year deal - came and went without Indianapolis using it.
The 4:00 p.m. EST deadline has passed to use the franchise tag. The @Colts did not use it after tagging Pat McAfee last season.

Last season, the Colts and general manager Ryan Grigson used their tag on punter Pat McAfee, who played all of 2013 on a one-year deal which paid him in the top five for punters across the league for that one season. In 2014, the Colts choice not to tag McAfee again, strongly suggesting that they are inclined to let the colorful, popular punter test free agency.
The Colts also opted not to tag either cornerback Vontae Davis or safety Antoine Bethea.
