A Brief Colts Injury Update

New, comments

Here's a quick update on some of the Colts injured guys (because there's quite a few of them).

Here's something that will come as no surprise to you: the Colts have several players dealing with injury.  Of course, Colts fans know how much this team gets injured, but more than that injuries are a part of football.  All around the league in 32 different training camps, players are getting injured.

You know about the major, season-ending injuries, but what about some of the guys missing practice - how are they doing?  Chuck Pagano gave an update on some of the notable ones.

Firstly, starting left guard Jack Mewhort had his leg wrapped during practice yesterday and his day ended early, and then he wasn't practicing today.  He has a sore knee and might very well miss Tuesday's practice too, but Pagano and the team are hopeful he'll return on Wednesday.

Secondly, potential starting safety Delano Howell hasn't practiced the past couple of days after leaving early, and he wasn't practicing today either.  He has tightness in a stiff neck and so the team wants to give him the time off as a precaution so things can "calm down."  The injury news about Howell is a bit concerning considering his season ended early last year when he was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury.  I'm not saying this is the same injury or anything like that, but when you hear about a guy sitting out of camp with a tight and stiff neck after he was placed on IR with an injured neck.  Hopefully, this is just the Colts taking it easy as a precaution.

Starting inside linebacker Jerrell Freeman missed practice Saturday, was back Sunday, and then missed today again.  Pagano said that he's dealing with a sore thumb and he's being held out just as a precaution.

Finally, newly signed (and then released and then signed again) wide receiver Nu'Keese Richardson left practice early yesterday and then today was nowhere to be seen, and Pagano said that he suffered a concussion and is currently going through the league's concussion protocol.

Lastly, as another injury-related note, we already mentioned how outside linebacker Daniel Adongo (ruptured biceps) and defensive lineman Jeris Pendleton (torn ACL) were waived-injured on Friday night, and they have officially cleared waivers and are now placed on the team's injured reserve.
