  • Chandler Harnish has not played well enough to warrant a roster spot on the team.
  • The Colts should keep 3 running backs and a fullback. It would be wise to keep a guy like Tipton on the practice squad, but nothing indicates that Tipton deserves a roster spot (but he deserves a practice squad spot).
  • The Colts should keep 6 receivers. They have 6 talented receiver. If they were to keep 5 guys, then they should cut Rogers.
  • Keeping tight ends was a tough choice but I believe it is the right one. Saunders hasn't been good this preseason and has even struggled heavily at times. There are a lot of tight ends like him on the market, which gives the Colts that flexibility. Doyle is better right now and is a good fit as a #3 tight end.
  • The offensive line group has been marred with injuries, but the 9 guys there are all adequate roster players. No tough decisions there.
  • The defensive line is a bit tougher. The first five guys are easy to predict (Redding, RJF, Chapman, Hughes and Jones), but after that it's tougher. The best player from the group after that has been Zach Kerr. He's been playing very well, and his dance moves are impressive for a 335 pounder. For those 2 reasons, he makes the roster.
  • At outside linebacker, the only question is how many they'll start the season with. I believe that Cam Johnson will make the roster to start the season, but once Mathis returns, Johnson will be gone. The Colts did trade a 7th round pick for him, so I'm sure they won't just get rid of him. The other 4 guys (Werner, Walden, Studebaker and Newsome) are roster players with Werner and Walden being two good starters and Studebaker and Newsome being two good backups with good special team ability.
  • At inside linebacker, Freeman, Jackson and McNary are easy choices and locks for the team. Muamba has played very well and is a near lock in my opinion. After that, there are a lot of question marks. Sheppard has been playing horribly this preseason (especially in coverage) and I think his roster spot is gone. Andrew Jackson isn't getting a lot of playing and could be a good candidate for the practice squad. For those reasons, I believe they'll keep 4 inside linebackers and get one for the practice squad (hopefully it's Jackson).
  • At cornerback, it's straight forward. Davis, Toler, Butler and Gordy are locks. Purifoy and Burley moved up to the 2nd stringers in recent weeks and have both been performing very well this preseason. They are the best of that bunch.
  • At safety, Landry is a lock. Adams and Brown are safe bets, and Anderson has performed well this preseason. Those 4 guys should make the roster. I believe the Colts should have one more guy after that and Dewey McDonald has been performing very well this preseason and is a good candidate for that #5 safety spot.
  • *A NOTE ON DELANO HOWELL*: He is missing from the roster and he is not on the Injured Reserve. We are waiting to see what happens, but he will most likely end up on Injured Reserve.
Thoughts on the roster?
