Colts Thursday Injury Report: Four Defensive Starters Miss Practice

Here's Thursday's Colts injury report.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

With the Colts playing Monday night, they've gained an extra day of game prep.  They had their typical off day Tuesday and then no media availability Wednesday, so today was the first day we really got an injury report - and there are quite a few players on it.

This from Chuck Pagano's press conference:

Josh Chapman, NT (ankle) - did not practice

Jerrell Freeman, ILB (hamstring) - did not practice

Arthur Jones, DE (shoulder) - did not practice

Joe Reitz, OL (ankle) - did not practice

Greg Toler, CB (ribs) - did not practice

Reggie Wayne, WR (rest) - did not practice

Ahmad Bradshaw, RB ("general soreness") - limited practice

Khaled Holmes, C (ankle) - limited practice

Sergio Brown, S (shoulder) - full practice

A few thoughts...

  • Obviously, that's a lot of guys on today's injury report.  Considering that the team only has 53 guys on the active roster, 9 of them either didn't practice or were limited in practice today.  Granted, one of them (Reggie) was just getting his customary rest day, but it's still not a great injury report day.
  • What we don't know is the severity of these injuries.  Reitz missed last week with a high ankle sprain and it's likely that he'll still miss a couple more weeks, but I get the sense that the injuries to the other guys aren't too serious - though that doesn't mean they'll all play Monday.  That'll be interesting to monitor as the week goes on, because two of the three starting defensive linemen, the starting inside linebacker, and the starting corner all missed practice today.  In case you didn't catch this, that's not good.  My guess is that quite a few of them will play, but we'll see.
  • It could be very interesting to see who is starting at center Monday.  If Khaled Holmes is truly healthy and gets good work this week, I think it could be him, but we'll have a much better idea later in the week (Friday and Saturday.
  • I don't think there's reason to worry about Ahmad Bradshaw yet, but I understand it given his injury history.  As a veteran running back in the NFL today though, I'm not going to really freak out about him being limited in practice today with soreness.  But that's just me.
