Colts Inactives vs. Broncos: Trent Richardson is Inactive

Here are the Colts' inactives vs. the Broncos for today's Divisional Round playoff game.

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts will take on the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs this afternoon, and with kickoff coming in just over an hour we have the list of inactives for the Colts this afternoon.  The Colts are very healthy entering this game, but NFL rules allow teams to have just 46 players active on game day (as opposed to the 53-man roster teams have), meaning that seven players have to be inactive.  For the Colts, that means there will be healthy scratches today, and one of them is a very notable player - running back Trent Richardson.  Here's the full list:

CB Jalil Brown

RB Trent Richardson

CB Sheldon Price

LB Henoc Muamba

OL Xavier Nixon

OL Jonathan Harrison

DL Zach Kerr

A few notes:

  • Obviously, Trent Richardson being a healthy inactive is the biggest story, and for good reason.  The player that the Colts traded a first round pick for last year is inactive for this huge playoff game.  We all already knew that the trade was a bad one, but this is just the most glaring example of that.  Trent Richardson is inactive for a playoff game.  His playing time had been decreasing recently and then last week during practice he was working with the special teams units.  The Colts aren't happy with Richardson and he hasn't been producing, and with him being inactive for today's playoff game there's a very real chance that he played his last game as a Colt last week against the Bengals.
  • With both Xavier Nixon and Jonotthan Harrison inactive, the two depth linemen for the Colts today are center A.Q. Shipley and guard David Arkin.
  • The Colts are going with just four cornerbacks against Peyton Manning and the Broncos offense with both Jalil Brown and Sheldon Price inactive (Vontae Davis, Greg Toler, Darius Butler, and Josh Gordy are the four active).
  • Zach Kerr is inactive, which is something we've seen quite a bit this year.  With Arthur Jones back, the Colts either go with Montori Hughes or Zach Kerr, and they're going with Hughes again in this game, which isn't a bad choice.
