We're just about an hour away from kickoff here in Indianapolis as the Colts prepare to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card round of the playoffs at Lucas Oil Stadium, but first we need to take a look at those players who won't be suiting up for Indianapolis today.  NFL rules state that teams can have 53 players on the active roster during the season, but on game day their roster has to be down to 46 players actually dressing and eligible to play.  Thus, each Sunday seven players from each team must be inactive.  A few of these spots are normally taken up by injured players, but they're then supplemented with healthy scratches.  That's certainly the case with the Colts' inactives today, and let's take a list at the complete list:

OL Hugh Thornton

OL A.Q. Shipley

OL Xavier Nixon

CB Jalil Brown

CB Sheldon Price

DL Zach Kerr

LB Henoc Muamba

A few notes:

  • On Friday, Hugh Thornton was ruled out with a shoulder injury and A.Q. Shipley was listed as doubtful with an ankle injury, and neither were expected to play.  That is indeed the case today.
  • Trent Richardson, who was questionable with an illness, is active today.
  • The Colts will have their eleventh different starting offensive line combination of the season today, as expected, with Lance Louis starting at right guard and Joe Reitz starting at right tackle.
  • Here are the Bengals' inactives: QB AJ McCarron, WR A.J. Green, DB Chris Lewis-Harris, OL Tanner Hawkinson, DL Devon Still, TE Jermaine Gresham, WR James Wright.  With both Gresham and Green out, the Bengals are missing two guys who combined to catch 131 passes for 1,501 yards and 11 touchdowns this year.  In case you were wondering - that's a lot.
