It has been a wild season for the Indianapolis Colts this year, as they started 0-2, then won three straight games against AFC South opponents (two of them without Andrew Luck), then lost to the New England Patriots last week - though keeping it closer than most expected. This week, Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints (2-4) come to Indianapolis to take on the Colts (3-3) in a game that is likely to be a high-scoring affair between two good offenses.
The Colts and the Saints don't play often, since they are in opposite conferences, but when they do play, the games have been memorable (though that's not always a good thing for Colts fans). The last time the two teams played was in 2011, when the Saints embarrassed the Colts on primetime TV in a 62-7 loss that was the low-point of the Colts' awful 2011 season. Prior to that, the last time the two teams had met was in Super Bowl XLIV, in which the Saints won a close football game in the fourth quarter. Before that, the Colts and Saints met in 2007 in the opening game of the season as the Colts hosted the Thursday night opener due to their being the defending Super Bowl champions, and the Colts won 41-10. And lastly, the time before that was a 2003 game between the two teams in which Peyton Manning completed 20 of 25 passes for 314 yards and six touchdowns, recording a perfect passer rating in a 55-21 victory. Overall, the Colts are 5-7 in franchise history against the Saints (including playoffs), but are 3-2 at home.
