It's a late afternoon game for the Indianapolis Colts today, which is a rarity for the team - particularly at home. They will host the Denver Broncos at 4:25, however, as they seek to enter their bye week on a high note by notching their first victory of the year against a non-AFC South opponent. The Broncos, though, are undefeated and looking to improve to 8-0 on the year.
Before the game starts, however, the Colts need to designate their inactives, as teams can only have 45 players active on gameday (despite the 53-man rosters). They have done so, and one very notable name is absent from the inactive list: wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, who didn't practice all week. That's a bit of a surprise, but it sounds like he'll be able to go, so we'll see how effective he is.
Here's the full list of inactives, followed by a few notes:
Phillip Dorsett, WR (ankle)
Josh Robinson, RB
Josh Thomas, CB
Nate Irving, ILB (knee)
Denzelle Good, OL
Todd Herremans, OL
Billy Winn, DL
The fact that Hilton is active is the most notable thing about this list, as that means that the Colts' number one wideout could be able to play today. He missed practice this entire week and so it was expected that he wouldn't be ready to play, but after testing it pregame, Hilton apparently is healthy enough to play. Hopefully it's the smart decision and he's able to contribute without re-injuring his foot.
The other notable part of this inactives list, however, is that Billy Winn is inactive. He has been a very solid contributor to this defensive line in the snaps that he does get, and so it's interesting that the Colts have opted to make him inactive today. Let's nor pretend like he's an all-star, but he's a guy who has been contributing and making plays for the Colts. I don't understand the decision to make him inactive today, but we'll see if it pays off. This means that Zach Kerr, who has been inactive recently, will need to step up in place of Winn. Rarely do I disagree with who is or isn't inactive, but this is one instance where I don't get the move (assuming there's no injury that we don't know about).
Here's the list of the Broncos' inactives for the game:
Jordan Norwood, WR
Trevor Siemian, QB
Lorenzo Doss, DB
Shane Ray, LB
Shelly Smith, OL
Richard Gordon, TE
Darius Kilgo, DL
