The Indianapolis Colts returned to practice on Wednesday preparing for their biggest game of the season. They will face the Houston Texans in a game that will give the winner the clear advantage in the AFC South race with two weeks remaining in the season.
It's crucial for the Colts to be as close to full health for this Sunday's game as possible, so the injury situations absolutely bear watching very closely this week. We already know that quarterback Andrew Luck will not play, as head coach Chuck Pagano ruled him out for Sunday's game already. There are several other key players on Wednesday's injury report, however. Here's the full practice report, followed by some notes:
Did Not Practice:
Colt Anderson, S (ankle)
Vontae Davis, CB (knee)
Jerrell Freeman, ILB (hamstring/ribs)
Matt Hasselbeck, QB (back/ribs)
Donte Moncrief, WR (toe)
Greg Toler, CB (knee/hamstring)
Limited Participation:
Anthony Castonzo, T (knee)
Jack Doyle, TE (toe)
D'Qwell Jackson, ILB (quad)
Andrew Luck, QB (abdomen/kidney)
D'Joun Smith, CB (knee)
Hugh Thornton, G (elbow)
Erik Walden, OLB (foot)
You will notice that nine starters were on the injury report today as either missing practice altogether or being limited, so that's obviously a concern. With that said, however, Chuck Pagano today said that if left tackle Anthony Castonzo can practice on Thursday and Friday without any setbacks, he should be available for Sunday, while Pagano also expects Matt Hasselbeck, Jerrell Freeman, and Erik Walden to play. Some of the others might play as well, but Pagano wasn't directly asked about them.
One new injury worth noting is that to wide receiver Donte Moncrief, as he didn't practice today with a toe injury and the Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder reported that he was in a boot. Another new appearance was Vontae Davis with a knee injury, though that figures to be the same knee injury that he suffered during Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He returned, but that could be the same issue that kept him out of practice today as he tries to get healthy.
