The Indianapolis Colts returned to work on Wednesday attempting to put the blowout loss to the Steelers behind them and get ready for their game this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Colts face their biggest stretch of the season to close out the year, as three of their final four games are against AFC South opponents. If Indy takes care of business in those games, they'll be heading to the playoffs and hosting a playoff game. Since they are entering the most important part of their schedule, it's important that they be as healthy as possible at this point, but the Colts are pretty beat up.
Several players are week to week with injuries, likely meaning the Colts will be without them this week, while there are a few other injury situations worth monitoring. Here's the full practice report for Wednesday, followed by some comments.
Did Not Practice:
Colt Anderson, S (ankle)
Anthony Castonzo, LT (knee)
Jerrell Freeman (hamstring/ribs)
Khaled Holmes, C (fibula)
D'Qwell Jackson, LB (quad)
Andrew Luck, QB (abdomen/kidney)
Erik Walden, OLB (foot)
Griff Whalen, WR (hamstring)
Limited Practice:
Greg Toler, CB (knee)
Full Practice:
Phillip Dorsett, WR (ankle)
Matt Hasselbeck, QB (neck/back)
Colt Anderson, Anthony Castonzo, Jerrell Freeman, Khaled Holmes, and Andrew Luck are all described as week to week by the Colts, meaning that they will miss this week's game. Luck has been throwing and is progressing well, but there is still no target date for his return that the Colts would disclose. Anthony Castonzo said on FOX Sports 975 yesterday that he should for sure be back by next week, which would be a big plus for the Colts.
Beyond those players, there are a few situations worth monitoring this week, particularly on the defensive side of the football. D'Qwell Jackson missed practice on Wednesday with a quad injury, and with Jerrell Freeman week to week, it is absolutely crucial that Jackson be able to play. Further, outside linebacker Erik Walden was in a boot today for a foot injury so that's a concern, but it seems to be the same injury that has been plaguing him for a while that he has played through, so we'll see whether that is the case again this week. Furthermore, Greg Toler was limited with a knee injury, so we'll keep an eye on that one too.
On the offensive side of the football, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was a full participant in practice after suffering injuries in last Sunday's game, further confirming that he is on track to play this Sunday. The team also could see the return of two key players, as both Hugh Thornton (who missed last week) and Phillip Dorsett (who has missed close to two months) were full participants today.
